Will Christopher Nolan’s Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises be based on Darwyn Cooke’s Catwoman?

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Of the modern film incarnations of Catwoman, we’ve seen both the fetishistic and the downright ridiculous. Knowing Christopher Nolan’s vision for his world of Batman, these versions would likely not be emulated in any way, shape, or form.

So it’s probably not a great surprise to hear a report that THE DARK KNIGHT RISES will likely be showcasing Anne Hathaway’s iteration of the character in the sexy yet still practical fashion envisioned by Darwyn Cooke during the Ed Brubaker comic book run of the character. Online rag Hollywood Life got the following from a source on the set of Nolan’s trilogy closer:

“Anne’s outfit is more tactical, like the comic book, than the previous Batman movies. She will definitely be wearing the goggles and it’s going to be less sexy than Halle Berry and Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman costumes. She’s going to look more like a robber.”

For those of you not familiar with the comics, a couple of images are here to give you an idea of what the costume may look like. (The upcoming Batman video game “Arkham City” also features Catwoman sporting a similarly influenced look.)

But will it only be the visual element being used in Nolan’s film, or will character elements of the Cooke/Brubaker run also be incorporated? Too early to know for sure, but that shouldn’t stop us from speculating!

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is currently filming and opens July 20, 2012.
