There's a story making its way around the net that Netflix has landed the SVOD rights to SEINFELD. For those of you wondering about the validity of this claim, I've got some fantastic news. The deal is real … and it's spectacular! Beginning in 2021, Netflix will become the exclusive streaming home of one of the funniest NBC sitcoms ever created after the show's pact with Hulu expires. Hoochie Mama, this means that Netflix will soon host all 180 episodes of the show about nothing, and in 4K resolution across the board no less!

Seinfeld is the television comedy that all television comedy is measured against. It is as fresh and funny as ever and will be available to the world in 4K for the first time,” said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer for Netflix. “We can’t wait to welcome Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer to their new global home on Netflix.”

Adding his voice to the conversation, Mike Hopkins, Chairman, Sony Pictures Television remarked that Seinfeld is a one-of-a-kind, iconic, culture-defining show. Now, 30 years after its premiere, Seinfeld remains center stage." He then added, "We’re thrilled to be partnering with Netflix to bring this beloved series to current fans and new audiences around the globe.”

While Netflix is poised to lose shows like FRIENDS and THE OFFICE to other services in the coming months, the SEINFELD acquisition should keep the streamer from experiencing "shrinkage" in the comedy department for some time.

SEINFELD stars comedians Jerry Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Michael Richards and Jason Alexander as four despicable denizens of New York City. The show chronicles the group's ineptitude with regards to dating, finding happiness, and in general, becoming decent human beings. The show lasted for 9 seasons on NBC and is hailed by many as the greatest sitcom of all time.
