Rosario Dawson retracts comments about Marvel developing a new Punisher series for the MCU

Rosario Dawson is walking back comments she made about Marvel being in the process of developing a new Punisher series starring Jon Bernthal. During the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo, Dawson confidently suggested that Bernthal would reprise his role as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, for the MCU. Speaking with fans, Dawson commented that her Marvel character, Claire Temple, aka Night Nurse, has yet to interact with Frank and that she’d welcome the opportunity. Many fans, including me, took this as a sign that Marvel is actively developing a reboot of The Punisher. However, Dawson is now saying that her comments were false.

Dawson later tweeted, “I can’t be trusted…! Getting intel from fans during signings is iffy, apparently. My bad.” She adds, “I get excited. Confirmation is key when you’re told what you want to hear…”

Rosario, is the Punisher coming to the MCU? Blink once for no and twice for yes.

While several sites have reached out for an official comment from Marvel, it sounds like a new Punisher series isn’t in the cards. Then again, perhaps Dawson slipped and then got a stern phone call from the powers that be? We’ll leave it up to you to decide.

Though Punisher’s MCU debut is in question, Charlie Cox’s Daredevil is confirmed to be getting a new series on Disney+. To get the hype machine cranking, Marvel released a teaser trailer for She-Hulkfeaturing a better look at Daredevil’s new suit, which has a classic yellow tinge. Talking to fans during the 2022 Middle East Film and Comic-Con, Cox said the new series would include a “slightly different” and “reimagined” take on the character.

“I don’t think it makes sense to pick up where we left off,” Cox said, then only hypothetically speaking on the potential of another installment. “Do you know what I texted my friends when I found out [‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’] was all happening? ‘Born again’.”

Daredevil: Born Again will be 18 episodes and debut exclusively on Disney+.

What do you think about Rosario Dawson walking back her Punisher comments? Do you think a new Punisher series is on the way? Will Jon Bernthal reprise his iconic role? Let us know in the comments below.
