However, here we are in the middle of December with Christmas fast approaching. In just one week, Santa Claus will be doing the chimney thing and bringing presents to all the good girls and boys – come on now, some of you may still believe in the legend of jolly old St. Nick. And considering this is a horror movie site, both Nick and I felt like sharing some of our favorite holiday themed flicks. And since we both have a few different suggestions to offer, we’ve decided to bring a bit of merry and a lot of cheer to this weeks column.

And one thing I made sure to do was give Mr. Groff the assignment of watching what has become one of my go holiday features, one that came out just last year. And yes, I’m talking ANNA AND THE APOCALYPSE! If you haven’t seen this delightful and exceptionally charming zombie, comedy and musical, you should head over to either Amazon Prime or Hulu immediately. And if you are looking for something with a little more disturbing, there is nothing like the original BLACK CHRISTMAS to send a chill down your spine. And of course, how can we not mention GREMLINS?! That groovy creature feature is just as awesome today as it was back then.

“Christmas is interesting every year with the hustle and bustle running around to houses and gift giving. When it comes to relaxing for an hour or so after a feast of great food, I love watching movies. A CHRISTMAS STORY was a childhood film I grew up on and every year that would be playing on my families television. Also CHRISTMAS VACATION was an epic watch to bring laughs back into the stressful time of the end year. ELF is a funny film too, but I like Will Ferrell.

I’m a huge horror fanatic so I would sneak away when I was young and watch films like BLACK CHRISTMAS. This was a unique slasher film that put a spin on the holiday spirit. Now it's been remade [again], I might check it out. I think [the original] holds up because it’s one of those cult classics that became big during that horror generation. Psychological films are always scarier when they have some realism to play a part of it.

One of my favorite Holiday classic films is SCROOGED with Bill Murray. He really makes that film great, but also, one of my favorite [actors in the film] who kicks butt in the movie is the ghost of Christmas present played by Carol Kane. This film still holds up from the 80s. It’s funny, entertaining and still carries the original message.

I will always appreciate the original films like SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT. There’s something unique about the originals that still hold up with the test of time. I feel that remakes try too hard sometimes and don’t live up to the creativity that was put in the first film.

DIE HARD is a classic in my book especially around the holidays. Not for everybody but this film has some unique acting from Bruce Willis and some clever lines that are still catchy to this day like, “Yippee-ki-yay”.

Happy holidays and let the spirits move you.”
