PGA honors Whedon

Joss Whedon is a talented force to be reckoned with, as he’s the dude who brought us BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, FIREFLY, and DOLLHOUSE to the small screen, and SERENITY and the upcoming horror flick CABIN IN THE WOODS to the big screen. He even had a hand in writing ALIEN: RESURRECTION.

The biggest respect the guy gets is when the networks cancel his shows. But that’s about to change, as Variety announced that Whedon will be recipient of the Vanguard Award, an award given to achievements in new media and technology, by the Producers Guild of America. Previous recipients of the award include George Lucas, James Cameron, and John Lasseter just to name a few.

You may be thinking, I guess that’s cool and all but what does it mean? It means when the award ceremony takes place for the 21st Annual PGA Awards on January 24 at the Hollywood Palladium, Whedon will be presented and honored for his work with a shiny award. Pretty cool… if you’re Joss Whedon.

My only hope is that this helps get CABIN IN THE WOODS in theaters sooner, as it’s currently slated for sometime in 2011. That’s just ridiculous, considering the film is already in post-production. To check out all the reasons why Whedon deserves said Vanguard Award, click HERE.
