Pop sensation Lizzo to join J Lo, Cardi B for stripper-themed Hustlers film

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

After dropping her scorching-hot album "Cuz I Love You'" last Friday, plus-sized pop diva Lizzo has announced that she's joining the cast of STXfilms' HUSTLERS. Upon signing on to the stripper-themed film, Lizzo will join stars Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, and Cardi B for a story that centers on strippers who band together to turn the tables on their wealthy Wall Street male clients. Lili Reinhart, Keke Palmer, Julia Stiles, Mercedes Ruehl, Trace Lysette, Mette Towley and Madeline Brewer are also confirmed to star.

The body-positive singer, who's known to many as one of the baddest bitches in the game, also has a voice-acting role coming up for STX Entertainment's UGLYDOLLS adaptation. Lizzo will lend her vocals to the character of Lydia for the animated adventure, which is based on the popular UglyDolls franchise. In the film, the free-spirited Uglydolls confront what it means to be different, struggle with a desire to be loved, and ultimately discover who they truly are and what matters most.

Lorene Scafaria is your director for HUSTLERS, which is currently shooting in New York City. The concept was inspired by a 2016 New York Magazine article by Jessica Pressler about a group of savvy former strip club employees who use their knowledge of the biz to burn their former employers where it hurts the most … their wallets.

After releasing her first two albums, “Lizzobangers” in 2013 and “Big Grrrl Small World” in 2015, the silver-tongued songstress that is Lizzo is currently tearing up the Coachella stage in support of "Cuz I Love You", her banger-filled LP that grooves just as hard as it rocks. For real, I'm listening to the album right now and it's 100% pure fire. In my estimation, Lizzo is something of a love child between Aretha Franklin and Missy Elliot, who guests on one of the album's hottest tracks, "Tempo".

Make no mistake, 2019 is shaping up to be The Year of the Lizzo. Y'all better recognize. HUSTLERS is planned for a September 13 release in theaters.
