Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes – the first full trailer for Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire has finally dropped and looks to be everything his fans have been hoping for. The three-minute trailer, which gives us a look at the massive scope of Netflix’s two-part epic, introduces us to Sofia Boutella’s Kora. A former soldier-turned-fugitive for going against the Imperium, Kora is spurred to action when her former employers invade her adopted home, led by Ed Skrein’s Admiral Atticus Noble.

Knowing her new home is bound to be destroyed, Kora sets out on a journey across the galaxy to recruit and hire a team of warriors, including Djmon Hounsou’s General Titus, her former Imperium mentor, the muscle man Tarek (Staz Nair), a sword master (Doona Bae) and a mercenary, Charlie Hunnam’s Kai. Together, this team seeks to wreak havoc on the Imperium, and judging by the battle-heavy trailer, which is scored by a great cover of T-Rex’s “Children of the Revolution,” they do just that.

For those not in the know, Snyder’s Rebel Moon began as a Star Wars pitch before evolving into its own franchise. A take on Seven Samurai/ Magnificent Seven, it looks like a mega-budget version of Battle Beyond the Stars to some extent and seems primed to be a major blockbuster for the streaming service. In this era of IP, Netflix is making a big swing here, trying to launch an original property with two films. The first movie, A Child of Fire, is due on December 22nd, while the sequel, The Scargiver, is on April 19th, 2024. Snyder had big plans for the franchise, with him already completing R-rated Snyder Cuts he intends to release shortly after the PG-13 originals. The film will also get a selected theatrical release, with a 70mm print of the film playing at the TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto.

Rebel Moon certainly looks to be Zack Snyder at his best, and it should be noted that his loyal audience is primed and ready for his action-packed fantasy epic.
