Sandra Bullock, Chris McKay team for Millar & Capullo’s Reborn on Netflix

As a way of inadvertently adding to today's New Comic Book Day goodness, Deadline has revealed that Netflix, Sandra Bullock, IT producer Vertigo Entertainment, and THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE director Chris McKay are teaming for an adaptation of REBORN, the indie comic book series co-created by writer Mark Millar and artist Greg Capullo.

According to Deadline's report, REBORN tells the story of "an eighty year-old woman, Bonnie Black, who dies in a Manhattan hospital only to find herself reborn in the prime of life in the afterlife world of Adystria, a magical land of monsters and dragons where good and evil are waging an eternal war. There, she finds old friends and loved ones waiting, except the husband who died before her. Armed with a sword and partnered with her late father, she sets off through the battle-torn landscape on a quest to find out where he is."

The first issue of Reborn was published by Image Comics on October 12, 2016, with a hardcover edition which collect all six issues of the limited series having hit shelves on August 2, 2017. According to the title's solicit on the official Image Comics website, Reborn asks the following question: Where do you go when you die? To which Reborn answers: Not heaven or hell–somewhere else. Somewhere you have to fight to survive. Somewhere the people from the past are waiting for you–the good and the bad.

Bullock, who recently teamed with the streaming giant to star in director Susanne Bier's pop culture phenom, BIRD BOX, will board the REBORN project as a producer, alongside Roy Lee and Miri Yoon for Vertigo Entertainment. In accordance with whispers around the Deadline office, Bullock may be cast as the lead, Bonnie Black, for Millar and Capullo's otherworldly sci-fi action drama. It's also been confirmed that Millar and Capullo will executive produce, with Samantha Nisenboim serving as co-producer. Meanwhile, McKay is set to direct the adaptation.

For those of you keeping count, REBORN marks yet another project for Netflix's Millarworld deal with acclaimed comics smith Mark Millar. Under the pact, Netflix and Millar have placed titles like Jupiter's Legacy, Empress, Huck, American Jesus, and Sharkey the Bounty Hunter into development. There's also been talk of revitalizing Millar's KICK-ASS franchise, this time with mother and veteran Patience Lee sporting the green and yellow-striped pajamas. However, details about the KICK-ASS project are scarce at this time, so I wouldn't get yourself chomping at the bit just yet.

I've yet to read Reborn, though you can bet that I'll now be getting my ass to the comic shop so I can check it out. How about you? Are you interested in this project? Let us know what you think of the recent indie comics-to-film boom that's happening as of late in the comments section below.
