M. Night Shyamalan has plotted out his next three movies

M. Night Shyamalan know what he wants his next three movies to be… and he hopes to get them out into the world in less than six years

Back in 2019, just months after the release of director M. Night Shyamalan’s film Glass, Universal Pictures announced that they would be releasing another Shyamalan thriller in February of 2021 and another in February of 2023. Those movies ended up being Old (which was shifted back to a July 2021 release along the way) and Knock at the Cabin, which just reached theatres this past weekend. (You can read our review HERE.) So what’s next for Shyamalan now that those long-scheduled movies had been made and released? According to Collider, the filmmaker says he already knows what his next three movies are going to be!

Shyamalan told Collider, “I have three movie ideas. I even have the structure of all three to some extent. And so it’s a very weird and interesting situation I’m feeling. I wish I could tell them faster. I wish I could get there faster, but there is no shortcut. I have to spend the six to nine months to write it. I have to storyboard for three months, and then we have pre-production, and then shooting it, and edit for as long as I can get every single second.

When asked if that means it might take six years for him to get all three movies out into the world, Shyamalan answered, “I’m hoping to do it a tiny bit faster than that. Let’s see if I can handle it.

It will be interesting to see if Shyamalan and Universal decide to continue their working relationship for these next three movies. Knock at the Cabin was the #1 movie over the weekend, but managed that feat with just $14.2 million – the lowest opening weekend for any Shyamalan film. But if Universal decides to stay all-in after this, they could definitely prove their Shyamalan dedication by making another announcement of multiple Shyamalan movie release dates like they did back in 2019.
