With the successful release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, DC fans have turned their attentions to David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. Although the film was a box-office success upon its release, it largely received negative reviews, but it has since become common knowledge that a good deal of Suicide Squad was left on the cutting room floor. Since then, fans have called for the release of the Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad, and you can count Will Smith as one of them.

While being interviewed by Variety during the red-carpet premiere on Bel-Air, Will Smith was asked if he would want to see David Ayer’s original cut of Suicide Squad.

Let me tell you, there’s a whole lot that stayed on the floor for ‘Suicide Squad. I’m into it. I love that world. I love what was created in both versions. I absolutely would love to [see it].

As far as whether we’ll ever see the release of the Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad, I’m not about to assume it won’t happen. I made that mistake with Zack Snyder’s Justice League and look what happened. In addition to Will Smith, we’ve seen other Suicide Squad actors voice their support for the Ayer Cut. Unlike the huge amount of work that was needed to complete Zack Snyder’s Justice League, David Ayer has previously said that the Ayer Cut of Suicide Squadwould be easy to complete,” not to mention being “incredibly cathartic for me. It’s exhausting getting your ass kicked for a film that got the Edward Scissorhands treatment. The film I made has never been seen.

One of the biggest elements cut from David Ayer’s Suicide Squad was Jared Leto’s performance as the Joker. “Jared was pretty mistreated during this,” Ayer has said. “No one has seen his performance. It was ripped out of the movie.” Leto did return as the Joker for Zack Snyder’s Justice League and he’s said that he would be down to return should David Ayer need reshoots for Suicide Squad as well
