The Dark Tower showrunner incredibly proud of abandoned Amazon series

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

As many of you know, Amazon shot a pilot for a planned TV series based on Stephen King's THE DARK TOWER book series last year. Then last week we learned that Amazon has passed on producing the rest of the series because they felt like the pilot was not on the level of their other fantasy series such as WHEEL OF TIME and THE LORD OF THE RINGS. Weak.

Well, today showrunner Glen Mazzara took to Twitter to let us know he's "incredibly proud" of the work the cast and crew did on the pilot, tweeting:

Stephen King tweeted his support back, writing:

Developed by Glen Mazzara, Akiva Goldsman, and King, the series was meant to be a more faithful retelling of the novels, at first telling

Roland Deschain's origin story – how he first became a gunslinger and got his guns, his first conflict with the man in black, his first love and his first mission as a gunslinger.

The first (and only) episode was directed by Stephen Hopkins who is best known around these parts for helming A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 5: THE DREAM CHILD, PREDATOR 2, JUDGMENT NIGHT; BLOWN AWAY, THE GHOST AND THE DARKNESS, and THE REAPING. Sam Strike (LEATHERFACE) was playing Roland with Jasper Pääkkönen as The Man in Black. Oh, and Michael Rooker was in there in an unspecified role.

Are you bummed Amazon has passed on THE DARK TOWER series? Make sure to hit us up and let us know what you think!
