The Fighter director adapting comic 2 Guns for Vince Vaughn

Usually I save the “Extra Tidbits” for that little section at the bottom of this article. But today I’m leading off with my Extra Tidbit: 3 of the 5 nominees for the Director’s Guild Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film in the Year 2010 are working on comic book adaptations for their next films. Darren Aronofsky is directing THE WOLVERINE, Chris Nolan is directing THE DARK KNIGHT RISES and now David O. Russell will be directing 2 GUNS.

While perhaps not as well-known as either Wolverine or Batman, 2 GUNS is based on the Boom! Studios comic by Steven Grant and Mat Santolouco. The comic is described thusly:

“In the vein of Ocean’s Eleven and The Italian Job, Two Guns is a pulp story about cops and thieves and the men that are something in between. Trench has targeted a local bank to rob, and asked Steadman in on the job. Trench figures it’s a great way to score – considering it’s a cover for mob money. They’ll be thieves ripping off thieves. But what Steadman doesn’t know is that Trench is a DEA agent. And what Trench doesn’t know is that Steadman’s got his own secret and isn’t who he appears to be…”

Universal is looking to get moving quickly on the film, which has Vince Vaughn set to star as one of the two leads. Russell is also developing UNCHARTED for Mark Wahlberg but which project will be next depends on which moves more swiftly through pre-production.

Russell and Vaughn have been trying to work together for some time, including the drama OLD ST. LOUIS and an untitled comedy about a radio DJ.
