The Last Mercenary trailer: Jean-Claude Van Damme kicks ass for Netflix

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Legendary badass Jean-Claude Van Damme is a man of many faces (and wigs) in the first trailer for Netflix's The Last Mercenary (Le Dernier Mecenaire).

It's been a hot minute since I've seen JCVD really let loose and take center stage like he's meant to do in Netflix's new action film. If you ask me, this trailer has got it all: absurdist action, clever costume changes, car chases, genuine laughs, and oh yeah, the man of the hour's hypnotic dance moves!

Directed by David Charhon, and written by Charhon and Ismael Sy Savané, The Last Mercenary stars Jean-Claude Van Damme, Alban Ivanov, Assa Sylla, Samir Decazza, Patrick Timsit, Eric Judor, and Miou-Miou. Jean-Charles Levy, Nicolas Manuel, Olivier Albou, Laurence Schonberg, David Charhon, Jakéma Charhon, Eponine Maillet, Olias Barco, and Vlad Riashyn produce.

Per Netflix, here's the film's official synopsis:

Richard Brumère, aka "La Brume" (The Mist), a former French secret service special agent turned mercenary, is back in the saddle as the immunity he was granted 25 years earlier for his son Archibald is lifted. A mob operation threatens Archibald’s life. To save him, Richard will have to reach out to his old
contacts, join forces with a bunch of reckless youngsters from the projects, and an offbeat bureaucrat – but mostly find the courage to let Archibald know he’s his father.

If you thought Jean-Claude Van Damme's days of doing impossible splits and putting bad guys on the ground were over, think again. The Last Mercenary (Le Dernier Mecenaire) will have its Netflix debut on July 20, 2021.
