Director Amy Heckerling’s VAMPS has languished for a while with a maybe/maybe not wide theatrical release, but recently settled on a DTV and VOD venue instead.  Now, we have our first look at the film in this trailer, which may give you a good feeling as to why it isn’t lighting up your local cinema on a Friday night.  It doesn’t look terrible, but it’s not exactly CLUELESS, which was a big hit for the director and her star, Alicia Silverstone, who also stars here.

Take a look:

If anything, this looks like it could be a fun distraction.  It’s not going to redefine the genre, but Heckerling has the ability to deliver some quirky fun and the cast is promising.  It’s another stake in the heart of the “scary” vampire genre (a la LOST BOYS), further “defanging” the mythical creatures for mainstream audiences, but I get it; it’s a comedy.  Just like TWILIGHT.

VAMPS, starring Alicia Silverstone, Krystan Ritter, Sigourney Weaver, Malcolm McDowell, Richard Lewis, Wallace Shawn, and Marilu Henner hits Blu-ray/DVD on November 13, 2012 with a VOD premiere on October 19, 2012.
