Transformers 3 will be in 3D (duh!) & Michael Bay promises less dorky comedy

With a title like TRANSFORMERS 3, it’s inevitable that the film will, in fact, be in 3D. And that’s exactly what’s happening with the third installment of the battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons, which is currently filming in the Los Angeles area for a July 1, 2011, release date.

The fine folks at USA Today recently hit up the set and had a chance to chat it up with director Michael Bay, star Shia LaBeouf, and one of the producers, dishing the dish about what we can expect from the third time around, and their thoughts about the Megan Fox departure.

The highlights: Bay finally listens to the fans (One thing we’re getting rid of is what I call the dorky comedy…), and the film’s main baddie is revealed (Shockwave, the robot cyclops-turned-laser-cannon, who became dictator of their home world of Cybertron after the other Autobots and Decepticons journeyed to Earth.).

Thank the lord that those two jive-talking robots, the leg-humping robot, and the robot who likes to pee on people won’t be around this time. At least, let’s hope Bay and I are thinking the same thing when we think of ‘dorky comedy.’ Without those silly elements, I might have enjoyed the big, loud, in-your-face ridiculousness of the previous two films. Then again, they’re promising that John Turturro will be back, so you know that not all of the stupid shenanigans will be absent.
