Venom: Tom Hardy hopes to include the Multiverse in future sequels

It sounds like if Tom Hardy had his way, he’d be playing Venom for many years to come. How do we know this? Well, Venom: Let There Be Carnage hasn’t reached theaters yet, and already Hardy is talking about hopes for the future. What sort of future, you ask? One that involves Marvel’s Multiverse. That’s right. Hardy is hoping to get in on the focus of Marvel’s Phase 4 plans by eventually having Venom swing into the Multiverse madness.

For the time being, Sony can only make movies revolving around characters they own the rights to. However, they’ve already managed to team with Marvel Studios to bring Spider-Man into the MCU. Who’s to say that can’t happen again? Blood-thirsty lawyers, probably. But even the angriest suit can be satiated with the right deal.

Recently while speaking with the fine folk over at Screen Rant, Hardy talked about the Multiverse and how he’d love to see Venom become a part of such a rich tapestry for insane stories.

“Yeah, it’s really hard because for me and the guys in the Venom-verse, we came together under Sony and that’s who we work for, that’s who we run with, that’s our team, you know? And obviously, we just look at it as creatives and say, ‘Look at all of these things we could play with,'” Hardy revealed. “But we have to establish ourselves as somebody that maybe they want to play with. Maybe somebody that belongs in that world first. And do you like what we represent as Venom? Is this established? Once it’s established, we then have to continue our Venom-verse. But at the same time, we will always be looking to campaign to play with that with all the brothers and sisters who are out there, do you know what I mean? Whether we can connect the dots, that’s up to the constellations, and that’s above my pay grade, but we would be remiss not to think about that when we’re working on the material.”

Sony has yet to announce plans for a third Venom film, but the release of Venom: Let There Be Carnage is just around the corner. Given that 2019’s Venom banked $856+ million at the worldwide box office upon its release, I’m sure that Sony is looking to make big numbers with the upcoming sequel. That said, the first movie didn’t have to contend with an ongoing pandemic. With moviegoers still being hesitant about returning to theaters, and Covid-19 passport mandates being implemented in select parts of the world, Let There Be Carnage has its share of challenges ahead. Is Sony’s next Venom movie capable of webbing up a big payday with these obstacles stacked against it? We’ll have to wait and see.

Do you think Sony will continue to invest in its Venom-Verse? Do you think it’s only a matter of time before Venom is considered a part of the MCU? Let us know in the comments section below.
