The full season two trailer for Euphoria has been released (likely to take advantage of some of that Zendaya Spider-Man: No Way Home traction) and it would appear that Rue and her friends are still in a pretty complicated place as they navigate their teenage lives in this hard-hitting and highly effective series.

The network’s official Season 2 synopsis reads: “Amidst the intertwining lives in the town of East Highland, 17-year-old Rue (Zendaya) must find hope while balancing the pressures of love, loss, and addiction.” That really is all we know about season two as specific plot threads have been kept under wraps but HBO confirms that, in terms of the cast, the following are officially locked in as series regulars for season 2: Emmy-winner Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Nika King, Eric Dane, Angus Cloud, Jacob Elordi, Algee Smith, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Barbie Ferreira, Maude Apatow, Javon Walton, Dominic Fike, Storm Reid, and Austin Abrams.

The wait for season two of Euphoria has definitely been a long one. The new episodes were originally set to begin filming in March 2020, but the pandemic forced the season to go on an indefinite hiatus. In the meantime, series creator Sam Levinson got creative and came up with two standalone installments centered on the characters played by Zendaya and Hunter Schaffer. These episodes served as a bridge between the show’s first season and its upcoming second and debuted as Christmas and New Year’s specials late last year.

Euphoria is a look at life for a group of high school students as they grapple with issues of drugs, sex, and violence. It’s loosely based on the Israeli series of the same name and creator Sam Levinson based the series on his own experiences as a teenager, including his struggles with depression, anxiety, and drug addiction. While some critics were critical of the show’s depiction of teenage drug use, sex, and violence, most of them praised the show for its honest performances, visual style, and its unflinching portrayal of a subject matter involving teens that most would ignore or sugarcoat. Zendaya, who leads the series, took home the Best Actress in a Drama Series Emmy for her gripping portrayal of Rue Bennett on the show.
