Favreau says no Tony Stark cameo in Thor or CapAm

If you were hoping that Robert Downey Jr. might steal a scene in another Marvel movie before THE AVENGERS, Jon Favreau says you’re out of luck. Talking to LA’s Kevin and Bean Show, Favreau says Tony’s hanging up the suit for a while, and talks a little bit about AVENGERS as well.

“[Downey’s] not in ‘Thor’, he’s not in Cap which are the two movies for next Summer,”

“It’ll be very interesting to see how the Marvel Universe branches off. All of these movies are going to be taken into account for ‘The Avengers’ in two years.”

“I’m not sure where ‘The Avengers goes,’ continued Favreau. “There is no shooting draft written yet. It’s gonna be a big undertaking for Marvel to actually incorporate what happened in ‘Iron Man,’ ‘Iron Man 2,’ ‘Thor,’ ‘Captain America’ [and] ‘The Hulk.’ All that has to inform one unified vision in ‘The Avengers.’ It’s a very exciting prospect. And certainly, Tony Stark is not going to be involved in any of the movies until that one.”

Favreau also mentions he’s considering shooting IRON MAN 3 in 3D, and says he’s playing around with the cameras. He maintains that 3D movies can be worthwhile if done right, and I’m sure he wouldn’t mind the extra box-office receipts either. I do have to applaud him for not allowing a hasty 3D upconvert of IRON MAN 2, and idea which I’m sure came up at some point in a conversation with the studio.

What he doesn’t say is whether or not IRON MAN 3 will drop before or after AVENGERS, a fact I’m assuming would change the plot of either a fair amount. If I had to guess, I’d say after, but 2013 seems a long ways off at this point.
