Dead Rising update

Last Updated on July 28, 2021

Earlier in the week, Gamespot posted a load of screenshots from Capcom’s upcoming zombie smash-fest DEAD RISING, which is set for release this June.

If you don’t know what this game is about (shame on you), click here for a little background on the game, which is more or less an homage to probably the greatest zombie movie ever, DAWN OF THE DEAD. The game puts you in the role of Frank, a photojournalist who is trapped in a mall that’s been invaded by zombies. What’s cool about the game is that while help will arrive in 72 hours (game time), you’ve got some decisions to make: investigate the lead that got you into this mess, save civilians who are caught up in the chaos, or do as Metallica would say and kill ’em all!

Along with the new screenies, Gamespot has also come out with another preview of the game, which has been constantly tweaked ever since it’s announcement. In the build that was shown at the recent press event in San Francisco, Frank was able to bust out moves that would make Chuck Norris jealous (that’s if Norris was a photojournalist trapped in a mall with the living dead, of course). Almost everything can be used at your disposal to fend off the brain-munchers. For example: enter an antiques store, grab that ceremonial axe or sword, and get with the dismembering. It’s nice to have variety, as you can pull the classic decap, but also slice ’em at the waist or even vertically! Yes, vertically.

As well as the conventional weapons, you can resort to using sporting goods supplies (gotta go with the hockey stick) or even one of those giant table umbrellas! But the game isn’t all blood and guts, however. Since Frank is a photojournalist, he’s armed with a camera, and what better way to make use of it than to snap shots of zombies doing zombie things. The better shots you get, the more points you score in the end. Where this factors into the game I don’t know, but it’s a nice touch. I can’t wait for the game, which is slated for the XBOX360 for now, it seems. Click here to read the full preview.
