MISSIONARY MAN – January 22nd

At first glance, you may think that this is some lame porn movie, featuring a dude who only lays rail in the missionary position. In fact, he does the missionary so much that his co-stars in the beaver pictures now refer to him only as Missionary Man. If that were truly the case, that’d be pretty entertaining, considering this stars the one and only Dolph Lundgren! In fact, this Missionary Man is a modern day western written and directed by the Universal Soldier, a combination that screams ‘MUST SEE’ in my book!

    THE INVASION
    – January 8th

Since LAYER CAKE, I’ve been a fan of Daniel Craig, and it’s an understatement to say that he IS one of (if not THE) best James Bond’s in cinematic history—but his role here? With co-star Nicole Kidman? I don’t know… something about it screamed ‘weaksauce’ and I couldn’t get myself to throw down the bucks to see it in theaters. But a rental? I’m so there! Not a blind buy, but since alien invasion movies can be fun, and this one stars Bond… James Bond… then how can I go wrong?

    The Goods:

  • 2.40:1 anamorphic widescreen
  • English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround
  • We’ve Been Snatched Before: Invasion in Media History Documentary
  • Invasion: A New Story featurette

  • Invasion: Snatched featurette

    GHOST SON – January 15th

I’m sorry to be the one to tell you this: GHOST SON is not, I repeat NOT the sequel/prequel/offspring of the Bill Cosby ghost comedy GHOST DAD. In fact, they’re not related at all! No comedic hijinks to be had here, unless freaky baby fetuses and that one scary lookin’ guy who’s in all movies like this is your idea of comedic. In that case, I’m sure this movie will be funnier than the film’s predecessor—in which it bears no relation to.

    The Goods:

  • Full screen
  • English Dolby Digital

    SOLSTICE – January 8th

I’m a fan of the CW. Call me trailer trash or bent on living my high school years vicariously through the good looking cast of every show on the channel, I get my kicks over at the new CW, and THIS movie looks like just another CW made for TV movie… that is, if the CW were in the business of making movies for TV. Maybe it’s because that dude on the cover was in an episode of SMALLVILLE, or because this cast is full of good lookin’ young folks… either way, since I dig my CW, I’ll at least dig on this beast, if only because it’s from the director of THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT. So ‘word’ on that.

    The Goods:

  • Anamorphic Widescreen
  • 5.1 English Dolby Digital

    RESIDENT EVIL: EXTINCTION
    – January 1st

We can now breathe a sigh of relief as the RESIDENT EVIL trilogy is now complete. Sure, they’ll likely make a forth, then even more STD style down the road because the series makes so much damn money; but in book, the trilogy is finished with EXTINCTION. Now I can go out and purchase the trilogy as a whole, sell off my older copies of RESIDENT EVIL and APOCALYPSE, and giggle lightly to myself that there are people out there who actually bought the double pack earlier this year when they KNEW the three pack was on its way. Happy New Year, indeed.

    The Goods:

  • Anamorphic widescreen
  • English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround
  • Filmmaker commentary
  • 4 making of featurettes (Alice Vision: Preproduction, The Big Bang: Shooting Resident Evil: Extinction, Bigger, Faster, Stronger: The Undead Evolve, and Vegas Visual Effects: Miniatures)
  • Deleted scenes
  • Sneak peak at Resident Evil: Degeneration
