Halloween 3D talk from producer Malek Akkad

Jun. 30, 2014by: Eric Walkuski

Several years ago, it appeared as though the DRIVE ANGRY and MY BLOODY VALENTINE team of Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer were going to embark on making HALLOWEEN 3D, the follow-up to Rob Zombie's reboots of the franchise. Obviously, it never happened, which was a sad development as they probably would have knocked it out of the park. At the recent Saturn Awards, Collider caught up with producer Malek Akkad to find out what happened with that project, and what's going on with the current HALLOWEEN 3 in development.

On the abandoned Lussier film:

Todd Farmer and Patrick Lussier did a script. The next day after the last one came out, we were back in production for Halloween 3D. We were about two weeks from going down to Louisiana to shoot it and for whatever reason, the studio thought we were maybe moving a little bit too quickly. I disagree. I think we had a great script and a great team and it would have been a massive hit. But right now were currently working on a new script for Halloween 3, so its all in the works right now.

On the new HALLOWEEN 3 and its relation to the Zombie films:

I cant talk about it too much right now, but it will definitely keep elements and bring in new elements. But I really want to bring it back to kind of like, the classic because the last one got a little dark I want to bring it back to the classic Friday night horror film that people will really like.

This sounds like a good plan to me. How about you? For more from Akkad, head over to Collider.
