Scout Taylor-Compton is glad that Halloween 3 never happened

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Before David Gordan Green's HALLOWEEN successfully resurrected the long-running horror franchise last year, our last helping of murderous mayhem courtesy of Michael Myers came in the form of HALLOWEEN II, the sequel to Rob Zombie's remake of the John Carpenter classic. Although the film wasn't as successful as its predecessor, it did well enough for the studio to begin developing a sequel which would have seen the return of Scout Taylor-Compton as Laurie Strode and Tyler Mane as Michael Myers. However, Rob Zombie, who had written and directed both HALLOWEEN and HALLOWEEN II, was not set to return.

While speaking with Syfy recently, Scout Taylor-Compton spoke about that third film and why, at the end of the day, she's glad it didn't happen.

Rob was done after the second one. There was a lot of stuff that was going on, and I mean, I was too young to really understand what was going on. But I do know that we were contacted. Myself and Tyler [Mane, who played Michael Myers] were contacted by Dimension to do a third. They had sent a copy of the script. They didn't have a director, but they had a tentative tape date, and that was it.

The actress added that both Tyler Mane and herself were hesitant about signing on after learning that Rob Zombie wouldn't be involved and that the studio would be cutting the budget in half. "It was the strangest phone call I've ever gotten in my entire life. When I heard that Rob wasn't gonna be a part of it, I called Tyler and I talked to him. And he said that he had gotten the same offer. We were so hesitant on doing it. And we saw the media, all the different directors that they had attached to it and all this stuff," Taylor-Compton said. "I was indifferent with what I wanted to do; it seemed so unorganized and so up in the air. But then I was like, 'Well, if I don't do [the movie], they're gonna get someone else to train what I've worked so hard on.' But I'm kinda glad that it didn't happen, because the way that the offer came in, it was not from loving hands."

Would you have liked a third installment of the Rob Zombie HALLOWEEN series?

Although a third installment of the HALLOWEEN remake series never materialized, it seems probable that we may get there with the new series. Blumhouse already has a sequel to the film in early development which is set to be scripted by Scott Teems (FIRESTARTER). It's also expected Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, and Andi Matichak will return to reprise their roles, although obviously nothing has been confirmed. This would make it the third HALLOWEEN II in the franchise. Bizarre.
