The Arrow
interviews Sid Haig

With Halloween
finally in the house and the seasonal classic “House of 1000
Corpses”
out on DVD (It was released August
12th), what better way to
celebrate heartily than my welcoming The Captain to the party. Arrow had the chance to shoot the shite with Sid
Haig, the man behind the extravagant, cussing clown Captain Spaulding
and here’s what he had to say.

ARROW- What’s your favorite horror movie?

SH– 1954 House of wax (in
3D)

ARROW- Did you always want to be an actor or
did you fall into it by accident?

SH– You can get the whole
story on my web site (
www.sidhaig.com),
just click on Bio.

ARROW-
You appeared in George Lucas’s THX 1138
in 1971, any fond memories from the experience? How was it working
with George?

SH– George was very cool. We
rehearsed that scene in limbo for a week before shooting it. And he let
us play with it as much as we wanted.

ARROW- You eventually made your name in
blaxploitation fare and B-movies. What do you think it was about you
that made you a perfect fit for those genres?

SH– I think it’s because I
try to find humor in everything I do, and that has a tendency to make
things a little more sinister.

ARROW- And now horror fans know and love you
for your portrayal of Captain Spaulding in House of 1000 Corpses. What
was it about the project that made you want to hop onboard?

SH
I felt that I could have a lot of fun with it, and I did.

ARROW- How did the audition process go for House of 1000 Corpses? Did you have to read for Rob or did he hire
you based on your rep?

SH
I was told to go home and read the script, and if I liked it, the part
was mine.

ARROW- How much freedom did Rob give you in
terms of improvisational leeway with Captain Spaulding?

SH– A lot.

ARROW- We all know that the House of 1000
Corpses sequel is underway. And we know that you’re in it. Can you
reveal anything about the sequel? Will we get know more about The
Captain?

SH– All I can say is that
we won’t have four new kids to mess with. It looks like the family is
going to go after one another.

ARROW- What stage is the sequel at the moment?
Is the script over and done with?

SH– Can’t say because I
don’t know.

ARROW- Is there a planned shooting date set?

SH– Late September or early
October (this interview took place a while back).

ARROW- What’s next on your plate? Any upcoming
projects in the works apart from the HOATC sequel?

SH– Just doing promos and
‘cons’.

ARROW-
What’s your favorite Captain Spaulding line from HOATC?

SH– “I’ll tell you what Ski
King, why don’t you take some of this fried chicken home to yo’ momma
so I don’t have to come over this counter and put my boot all up yo’
ass.”

ARROW- Was the Captain’s Fried Chicken in HOATC
as yummy as it seemed from where I was sitting?
That looked like some fine chicken!

SH– It was grease on a
bone.

I’d  like to thank Sid Haig
for his time.  Keep doing your thing bubba and we’ll keep
watching! I’m looking forward to seeing him go hogwild again
in House of a 1000 Corpses: Part 2.  Till then…keep rocking Sid!
