Last House gentle?

How does a kinder, gentler LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT sound? Apparently that’s what the studio is doing with the remake. Gone are the days where you can just have long, endless scenes of shame and horror running through an extended rape scene.

According to scare master Wes Craven, this remake will still have plenty of scares throughout the film, but it just won’t be as savage and brutal as his 1972 masterpiece. “I think it’s probably the film I’ve made the hardcore fans respect the most because it’s just so brutal,” Craven said. “We don’t want to do it quite that brutal because it’s also just a great story. Bergman did the story and before that it was a medieval story so we’re going to try to split the difference.”

But before we all start turning red in a demon-like rage because we aren’t going to get our overly graphic rape fix, Craven doesn’t shut the door on it all completely, as he leaves the possibility of the film being as hardcore as needed up to the next director. “We’re trying to make a deal with a very interesting director who directed something. A Grecian I guess director who directed something called Hardcore [Dennis Iliadis] about street prostitutes in Greece that I think is an amazing film. We want somebody who is a real artist who can give it his own vision.”
