The Walking Dead Lauren Cohan

Lauren Cohan, who plays the character Maggie Rhee on AMC's The Walking Dead, had quite a public stand-off with AMC during the show's eighth season (which wrapped up earlier this month). Cohan's contract had reached its end, and the actress and the network couldn't seem to agree on how much she should be paid to return to The Walking Dead for its ninth season. For a while, there was a complete communication breakdown, and Cohan even signed on to play a lead role in an ABC pilot called Whiskey Cavalier.

It remains to be seen if ABC will order Whiskey Cavalier to series, but even if it does Cohan made sure in her contract for that show that there would be no scheduling conflicts with the production of The Walking Dead if AMC were to ever get back in contact with her and offer her an acceptable salary.

Obviously that did happen at some point, because during an appearance at CinemaCon in Las Vegas Cohan revealed that a deal is in place and she will be back as Maggie in The Walking Dead season 9. She told Entertainment Weekly,

I’m going back. There’s a lot more Maggie story to tell. … You know we’re not allowed to tell you anything, but it’s good."

Maggie's final scene in the season 8 finale (which is embedded below) made it clear that Cohan's presence would be required in future episodes, so I'm glad Cohan and AMC have finally come to terms so the story of "The Widow" can continue to be told.

The Walking Dead will return to AMC airwaves this fall.
