NBC is interested in Flatliners-esque new series Nine Lives from producer Steven Spielberg

Steven Spielberg has a knack for producing some of the most entertaining shite imaginable. so when he’s involved in something that revolves around almost dying and evil spirits, I’m definitely interested. We are, after all, talking about the dude who produced POLTERGEIST. He has a new TV series under his belt called NINE LIVES, and now that it’s out from under SyFy’s control, NBC is interested in taking it on!

A few years back the-then Sci-Fi Channel picked up the series as a 12-hour miniseries, but ended up doing nothing (and I mean nothing) with it. Now that some time has passed, NBC is interested in taking it on to be more like a full-blown series than a mini-series, as writer Les Bohem is now reworking the script for a broader, more NBC-style audience.

So what, pray tell, is NINE LIVES all about? Check it: [The show] revolves around a group of people who find a way to reunite with their loved ones in the afterlife through near-death experiences, but those journeys unleash an evil force.

They were going to go with FLATLINERS as the working title, but then realized it already existed for a movie with the same premise. A few years back we heard FLATLINERS might be a TV series from Stephen Susco, but apparently this project isn’t the same thing. Even though it sounds suspiciously like the Kiefer Sutherland / Kevin Bacon / Julia Roberts classic. If one of the evil spirits is named Billy Mahoney, we’ll know for sure if it’s a blatant rip-off or not.

NBC hasn’t officially taken on NINE LIVES (waiting for that broader script, I think), but with Spielberg on board and a tired-and-true premise, they’d be crazy not to. Stick around for more on NINE LIVES as we hear it!
