New Blade Runner film to be a sequel set “some years” after 1982 original

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

With Ridley Scott expounding upon his alien saga in PROMETHEUS next month, let’s not forget the man his similar plans for his 1982 sci-fi masterwork BLADE RUNNER. Before he makes that a reality however, Scott will direct THE COUNSELOR as his next film. Still, it’s never too early to dig some dirt on BLADE RUNNER, and thanks to Variety, we now have a better idea of what to expect…

Word from the trade, which cites Alcon producers, is the next BLADE RUNNER film will be an out and out sequel taking place “some years” after the 1982 original. Of course, events in that flick took place in 2019 Los Angeles, so expect the sequel to possibly remain in the 21st century.

Also confirmed is something Scott has said for months, that original writer Hampton Fancher will aid development.

If you don’t know, shame on you:

Deckard, a blade runner, has to track down and terminate 4 replicants who hijacked a ship in space and have returned to earth seeking their maker.

Until we hear more, what do you make of this sequel news?
