"Game of Thrones" and THOR: THE DARK WORLD director Alan Taylor is currently in talks to helm the upcoming TERMINATOR reboot for Paramount, Skydance Productions and Annapurna Pictures, reports Variety. It's an interesting choice simply because he's not really known for directing feature length films as he's mostly worked in television. Once THOR: THE DARK WORLD hits theaters we'll be able to get sense of what this guy can do with huge action sequences and a nice budget — he's obviously doing something right though!
The first in a stand-alone trilogy, TERMINATOR will be produced by Megan Ellison of Annapurna and David Ellison of Skydance. Dana Goldberg and Paul Schwake of Skydance will serve as executive producers. Laeta Kalorgridis (SHUTTER ISLAND) and Patrick Lussier (DRIVE ANGRY) are attached to write the screenplay. We still aren't sure whether or not Arnold Schwarzenegger will have a role in the film, but he has said in past interviews he will be back for the film — let's hope so!
Apparently the studio had targeted a few other directors before landing on Taylor. Ang Lee was one of their early choices, but a deal could never be reached. Other early targets included Rian Johnson and “Prisoners” director Denis Villeneuve. In the end, Taylor won the job in helping reboot the iconic sci-fi franchise. I never considered Johnson for this but my god that would have been cool to see his take on the franchise.
More on this one when we get it!
