SDCC: King Kong to return in Legendary’s Skull Island

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Legendary made fans of big monsters very happy with the news on the upcoming GODZILLA sequel which will feature Mothra, Rodan, and Ghidorah, but that isn't the only giant-sized suprise they had in store for folks in Hall H today at San Diego Comic-Con.

Legendary Pictures concluded their Comic-Con panel with a surprise announcement that they’re already hard at work on new King Kong film entitled SKULL ISLAND, unveiling a short teaser for the previously unannounced film. Equally as cool, they also revealed a release date for SKULL ISLAND: November 4, 2016.

From the studio’s post-panel release:

“Previous works have touched on the island, but staying and exploring this mysterious and dangerous place offers Legendary the opportunity to take audiences deeper inside this rich world with a style and scope that parallels other Legendary productions.”

No director or casting details have yet been released.

This is actually quite cool news as I'm as big of a fan of KING KONG as I am of GODZILLA. Could this mean that Legendary is building up to a KING KONG vs. GODZILLA movie, or is that just wishful thinking?
