Summit boards Arena

Summit Entertainment may have just picked up one of the more promising sci-fi/action/thriller extravaganza’s since… I don’t know, PITCH BLACK? The flick’s called ARENA and it sounds like it has the makings of some serious good times.

First up, the story, which goes a little something like this: a group of modern-day soldiers are mysteriously transported from the thick of battle to a terrain-shifting landscape where they must fight the best warriors of all different eras and histories in a gladiatorial fight to the death — or be killed by the all-powerful operators of the “Arena.”

Sounds promising, no? I hate to say this, but the first image I was reminded of after this description was the final battle scene from… CONEHEADS. That’s right, CONEHEADS. When Dan Aykroyd battles that beastie in the arena? I’m sure this will be nothing like that, but I had to say it: CONEHEADS!

Of course, the right image to be reminded of would be of the Thunderdome from MAD MAX BEYOND THUNDERDOME, but maybe there’s just something wrong with me. I’m sure the mystery of whether the “Arena” is real, or simply a holographic image of some sort, playing tricks on the soldiers brains. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to throw down my $10 to find out!
