Talk of a third X-FILES filmed started almost immediately after X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE and lasted long after the film tanked. The last time we heard talk on a possible third film came back in September... then nothing. Until now!

You see Screen Daily recently got a chance to chat with X-FILES scribe Frank Spotnitz and a little hope for another X-FILES flick trickled out. Now the topic of conversation was Spotnitz's new UK spy series HUNTED but that doesn't mean THE X-FILES wasn't talked about. When asked about the potential for another X-FILES film Spotnitz responded with:

ďThere is a very active and relentless fan campaign for a last movie. I do feel like it would be a terrible shame if that didnít happen. It feels wrong not to give it an ending around the alien colonisation of earth. David [Duchovny] and Gillian [Anderson] (below) feel the same. I have a clear idea of how it would go and Iíve been talking to Chris Carter about it for a long time. Iíll keep banging the drum whenever I meet the Fox guys [the studio holds the sequel rights but was disappointed by the originalís lackluster box office].Ē

So I think it's safe to say he's definitely in! Hell we're talking THE X-FILES here. There are still plenty of people out ther who dig the shite out of that franchise so there's always a possibility another sequel would work. Especially if done right. And let's face it, you can't get much worse than I WANT TO BELIEVE can you?

To check out the rest of the interview head right over HERE. If any other news regarding a third X-FILES flick breaks you can bet we'll be right here to tell you about it.

Extra Tidbit: Anyone catch David Duchovny's Showtime series "Californication?"

The sequel wasn't awful but just disappointing as it didn't feel very cinematic in scale especially following the 1st movie. It actually was good story and watching those characters is always a joy. I'd definately like more from them.

I think they should go with some sort of conspiracy theory of some kind. To me, The X-Files is very much about that. Bring back John Doggett (Robert Patrick) too!

I also enjoyed the sequel; I know it had nothing to do with aliens but then I always preferred the more imaginative standalone monster-of-the-week episodes, and the earlier episodes that merely hinted at the conspiracy. The more I found out about the main story arc, the less I cared.

Please make this happen

I'm a massive X-Files fan, I loved the first movie but was let down by the second, it just felt so lackluster after years of waiting, they laid down the big alien conspiracy storyline in the final episode so I'm hoping we get a final movie to wrap it up and go out on a high, however I can't see it happening for the 2012 storyline and given the last movies box-office numbers it wouldn't surprise me if Fox want to do it on a shoestring budget which would ruin it

I'm probably in the minority of people who enjoyed the X-files sequel, so I'm down for a third! Extra Tidbit* yes i watched Californication up to the third season. It was mostly entertaining, and definitely good for a laugh whenever it was on.
