Aaron Taylor-Johnson has reportedly signed the deal to play Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron

10.30.2013

After months of speculation, reports have Aaron Taylor-Johnson finally sealing the deal to play Quicksilver in Joss Whedon's THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. The British actor best known as the star of KICK-ASS and Oliver Stone's SAVAGES has been the top contender for the Marvel character being introduced in the sequel. Elizabeth Olsen, Taylor-Johnson's GODZILLA costar, is still the leading candidate to play Quicksilver's sister, Scarlet Witch.

The Wrap reported on the deal between Marvel and the actor saying that the delay was due to THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON overlapping filming with the promotional schedule for GODZILLA. With details squared away between Disney, Marvel, and Legendary, the path was cleared for the role to be made official.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson will now play Pietro Maximoff, the son of Magneto, who possesses superhuman speed like The Flash. Quicksilver will also be making an appearance in Bryan Singer's X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, played by Evan Peters, in which Magneto is a character. It remains to be seen if Magneto will be excised completely from the AVENGERS plot or if some sort of reference will be hidden.

Taylor-Johnson previously had this to say about his rumored link to the role of Quicksilver:

"I think when it comes around and you're asking about 'Avengers 2' and Quicksilver and things like that, the thing is to think about that he's an abandoned child. Him and his sister are abandoned, they live in Eastern Europe. And if that's something that you can make work, then there's always... you gotta have something that you can relate to. So when it comes to that, then it's enjoyable. So I don't really care what it is you know."

Aaron Taylor-Johnson joins the star-studded cast that also features Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson and James Spader as Ultron. THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON hits theaters on May 1, 2015.

Excited to see what he brings to the group and what the chemistry will be like between everyone. I still think its dumb that two different films have two different versions of the character.

I still hope for small compromises

Like seeing Spidey swinging by in the background, or a silent telecast of Prof X or 'vigilant with a skull on his chest terrorizes Hell's Kitchen' kind of thing. The Marvel Universe is so big, and even small cameos or nods to other properties always felt so comfortable in the comic books.

A good choice

looking forward to seeing him play Quicksilver. But I suspect that dude has serious mommy issues - how old is his wife?

will Avengers and X-Men refer to him as

i don't get how these movie rights work. so Marvel can't say the word "mutant", but they can make Quicksilver? are they allowed to use that name, or do they have to call him "Pietro"? if so, then how come Marvel can't introduce a character named "Logan" who happens to have quick healing and claws?

There is only a few characters with they type of grey zone it stems from 2 things I believe, first appearance issue (x-men) first big story arch that made him not just a one time villain (avengers). Basically a character has to be famous for 2 different before he became a Marvel staple. King Pin is another example if I remember correctly SPIDER-MAN could still use him if wanted. The Kree are another one. Black Panther might have been for a while as well being he was introduced in the FF but

Anyone see last weeks episode of SHIELD with the super powered dude named Scorch lol, funny and kind of sad at the same time.

Awesome

Loved him in Kick-Ass 1 and 2!
Wasn't a huge fan of Savages, But under Joss Whedons writing and direction he will do great!

Whedon is a not a good writer and not that good of a director either. Avengers worked because of the characters and actors. The writing was mediocre and full of plot holes and some really odd scenes that sort of didn't make sense weren't explained.

Good actor - good choice

Was hoping he'd get the part, he's an actor with some surprising range.
More importantly, why the hell does this site look like a freaking MySpace page now?
