Abrams' Salt and Gorn

Nov. 20, 2009by: Paul Tassi

A little while ago, I showed you what J.J. Abrams' Klingons would have looked like had they not been cut from the final version of STAR TREK, and the result was that actually, they were pretty damn cool. Well, according to this special feature from the DVD (via TrekMovie), there were other classic Trek creatures cut during the Klingon prison scene as well.

Below you’ll find Abrams’ renditions of the Salt Vampire and Gorn, which unfortunately we never got to see on screen. Gorn of course, is legendary for his famous fist fight with Kirk which made for one of the most ridiculously awesome moments of the original series.

Check them out below and head over to TrekMovie for the full feature.

Extra Tidbit: I think I'd actually prefer Borg or Klingons over Khan in the next movie.

Trek with Klingons...

is like Star Wars without Vader - remember the mountains of suck that were the tweequels? Maybe both, Khan could be thawed by the Klingons, and he takes over. Of course, this will take place over a couple of movies, after setting up the ruthlessness of the Klingons, and the cunning of Khan.

Having said that, what I'd really like to see is more minor characters unexpectedly becoming major players; Harry Mudd, the Organians, the Romulan commander from Balance of Terror, hell - even Spock's brother Sybok. JJ has a HUGE playground to work with, I only hope he stays off the old swingset (timetravel) now that he used it in the first movie. Quick final thought - how about Scotty is somehow partially responsible for creating the Borg, and the guilt leads to his drinking problem?

I'm glad that particular version of Gorn didn't make the cut, because I'd prefer an animatronic prosthetic that could actually emote, while retaining the massive lizard eyes.

It's a big universe...

Couldn't they create some new kind of alien to face? I'm sure JJ knows what he's doing, but it always seems to be Borg, Klingons, Romulans, etc. Go with something new, and have minor parts for those guys.

Yes, I would love to see the Klingons and Khan but I really think we need to see something we've never scene before and I'd prefer to see it before JJ or any of the actors decide to move on. The Borg are the one major Star Trek villains that the original crew never got the chance to face and with the newly altered timeline, they very well can do that. Just imagine the possibilites of throwing Spock into the mix with the Borg. What might his logical mind think of how the Borg operate and

The Borg take away all personality, individuality. Spock would be the same as every drone. Kinda boring if you ask me.

KLINGONS

C'MON you are going to do TWO new movies with no Klingons?? They are a great villain. We need Klingons in ST2.

Freakin' salt vampires gave me nightmares as a kid....They could always do a mirror universe Star Trek movie..Spock with a Beard = Badass.

Voice of dissent yet again.

First off, we never really got to see what the Klingons look like, so how cool can they be? We only got to see what their cheesy made-for-tv torture hoods look like.

Secondly, am I the only one who noticed that the Klingon torturer sounded ridiculously like Paul Frees? Are we in a Klingon interrogation chamber or the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland?

I'm down with Khan. But rather than doing a "Wrath of Khan" remake, I'd like to see a re-imagining of Space Seed.

I agree with a few who basically are saying forget Khan! Bring the Klingons and/or some of the Original Series aliens in up to date (of course) versions. Yea, too many to name here.

HOLY CRAP!

Forget Khan, I want to see more of The Gorn. Especially if they're going to look like that! The Gorn has been completely untouched, aside from one TOS episode and an alternate universe Enterprise episode, so JJ would have free range to recreate them as, well, basically anything.

I'd also, rather than Khan, see them have some Vulcan terrorists in the next film. Where a sect of Vulcans blames the Romulans for their planet's destruction and commit terrorist acts on the Romulan Empire. That

Khan...?

Just needed to shake things up a bit (couldn't type Kahn!!! again). I would like to see Kahn again, personally. Of course, since we have yet to meet him in the new universe, the plot would have to be closer to the Space Seed episode... or, even better, a completely new way to introduce the man, the legend, the bare chested wonder.

Khan!!!!

I would also prefer Khan. This could be a good story. We have had enough Borg.. Unless it's a 7of9 type Borg ;-)

I'm not opposed to Khan appearing in the next Trek as long as he's not the villain and introduced solely to set him up as the antagonist for a later flick.

Extra Tidbit: Or Cardassians maybe.

btw, nice looking updates for those classic creatures. Gorn looks much better than cgi version from Enterprise.

KHHHHAAAANNNNN!!!

Really? Isn't Khan one of the most popular villains in cinema history? And the Borg are really Next Generation villains, but abrams could make them fit. But Khan is the man.
