BHC: Ratner promises R

I didn’t know people asked Brett Ratner for his views about anything but apparently that happens, since here he is today to regale us with his thoughts about his upcoming BEVERLY HILLS COP movie:

“It’s a hard R… [and] we’re not going to call it ‘4,’… It will be a new ‘Beverly Hills Cop… There was all this stuff on the Internet and they’d read a script… It’s not the script I’m making… It’s a reinvention… I’m going to reintroduce it to a contemporary audience. I’m going to take the best of the first two films and put it into the new one.”

I find it truly hilarious that Brett Ratner thinks by asserting his movie will be a hard-R and that the script he’s shooting isn’t the one you’ve seen derided online, that people will cease to think it will be a piece of shit. Dude, people think it is gonna be a piece of shit because you’re directing it. You could have reanimated Nabokov, Tolstoy and Flaubert to write it for you, people will still think that. Look at your credentials.

In the interest of presenting a fair argument though, I should acknowledge that there are worse alternatives to having Ratner direct. You could have Uwe Boll. Or a caveman. Or a sail boat. Although possibly not the sail boat.
