Clint Eastwood as Superman and James Bond?? Once upon a time, it could've happened! | Movie News
The Los Angeles Times recently sat down to talk to Clint Eastwood about his latest directorial effort HEREAFTER, which is due out later next month. In that interview, the big screen legend revealed that back in the day he was sought after to play the iconic roles of... The Man of Steel and 007?
It's true! Here's Eastwood on both roles and his decision to turn them down at the time:
"I can remember – and this was many years ago – when [Warner Bros. President] Frank Wells came to me about doing Superman. So it could have happened. This was when they first started to think about making it. I was like, ‘Superman? Nah, nah, that’s not for me.’ Not that there’s anything wrong with it. It’s for somebody, but not me."
"I was also offered pretty good money to do James Bond if I would take on the role. This was after Sean Connery left. My lawyer represented the Broccolis,” who produce the Bond franchise, “and he came and said, ‘They would love to have you.’ But to me, well, that was somebody else’s gig. That’s Sean’s deal. It didn’t feel right for me to be doing it."
Ironically enough If you'll recall, Eastwood was the actor that Darren Aronofsky once wanted in the role of Batman in his and Frank Miller's short-lived and pretty out there version of THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS way back when. That obviously never happened (and imagine if it did!). But what superhero might Clint have picked if ever given the chance?
"Hey buddy," Eastwood said with a thumbs-up gesture, "[Namor] the Sub-Mariner, that’s the one I always liked. I had all of those comics when I was a kid."

Hell, there's a lot of good directors out there and if Wolvie 2 doesn't happen, how much you guys want to bet that Marvel will buy back the property?
I guess it's a long shot, but I can dream, right?

Also, I think Gran Torino is one of the best movies of the last 10 years.

He would've been a fantastic Batman though. And Judge Dredd for that matter.
