Could The Force Awakens open to $615 million worldwide? Plus new BTS pics

Back in April, we brought you word several industry analysts were predicting that STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS could have a global opening weekend of at least $500 million.

However, that was before JURASSIC WORLD stomped into theaters and broke all kinds records, and now the box office forecast of the film is that it could gross as much as $615 million worldwide in its debut weekend, with $300 million of that coming from domestic theaters. Even though the film won't be playing yet in China (December is a blackout month for Hollywood films), many are confident that it will still be able to hit those numbers.

A $300 million domestic opening weekend may sound crazy, especially since the record is "only" $208 million, but it's definitely possible. The film will play in more than 4,000 theaters and on at least 10,000 screens, and it's not like people aren't excited to check out a new Star Wars flick. Empire has also released its THE FORCE AWAKENS subscribers' cover, as well as two new behind-the-scenes stills featuring John Boyega and director J.J. Abrams, all of which you can check out below.

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS will be in theaters on December 18, 2015.

This film will make a billion $ in 2 days world wide. This film will shit all over that god awful Jurassic world crap, and will give avatar and titanic a well deserved boot from the top spot of highest grossing films of all time. Nothing stands a chance competing with EP 4.

It is going to be HUGE. But 3 things MAY keep it from setting the record for first weekend.
1) Winter, all the record holders have been summer openings until around 12th on the list and that was a November opening for a Twilight film.
2) Christmas, it's opening the last shopping weekend before the holiday. A lot of theaters are in or near malls.
3) It's Star Wars, remember the prequels and the craziness that all the news stories covered. A lot of casual viewers will want to see the film but

Umm yea... Avatar opened in December... December 18th 2009. And you are dead wrong. Lol sorry. Winter and the holiday will not keep people from the theater. Not a film like this. And everyone and they're brother knows this won't be a damn thing like the prequels. Getting the original actors back is what will inevitably spring launch this film past 1 billion world wide in just a couple days.

I think it's possible

Even people who don't ordinarily go to movies are making time for this one, since it's STAR WARS. As Oppy said, it's only 2 hours so theatres can add more screenings. Plus, the buzz for this film is off the hook, and I think deservedly so.

It's already got an advantage over Titanic and Avatar in that it's only two hours instead of three, which means it can get more screenings per day. It's got 3D and IMAX screenings. It's Star Wars. And from everything I've seen so far, it will actually be a genuinely great movie (Jurassic World was good, but not great). So yes, it will probably break every record there is.

From what I've heard, people that aren't glued to internet movie news even know about this movie. I wouldn't doubt this movie will rival Camerons Avatar's numbers.

I think it's possible. This is a special kind of film. An event film of the highest order. Generations and generations will see this film, and multiple times.

It wouldn't be surprising if it actually does hit those numbers, if not more. I mean it's Star Wars; would anyone be surprised by this at all??

Ugh, this is starting to become an agonizingly painful wait. I hope my schedule keeps me busy enough from having to worry when more potential spoilers start coming out as we get closer to the release date as well as having to watch the teaser trailers for the 9 millionth time...
