The first trailer has been released for PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: THE GHOST DIMENSION, which yesterday we learned will be the final chapter in the horror series. The trailer promises every secret will be revealed in the franchise ending movie, and this time we will actually be able to see the activity, thanks to a special video camera. The camera footage parts of the film will be presented onscreen in 3D, a first for the franchise.

Although I didn't care for the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY sequels (or the spinoff), I'm actually kind of digging this first trailer. As expected, there are some jump scares, but the film looks like it could be a bit creepier compared to the previous sequels, and we'll also finally be able to get a good look at the demon Toby.

The upcoming movie will follow "a new family, the Fleeges — father Ryan (Chris J. Murray), mother Emily (Brit Shaw) and their young daughter Leila (Ivy George) — who move into a house and discover a video camera and a box of tapes in the garage. When they look through the camera's lens, they begin to see the paranormal activity happening around them — including the re-emergence of young Kristi and Katie."

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: THE GHOST DIMENSION will haunt theaters on October 23, 2015.

Excuse this rant

This movie actually looks pretty interesting. However, I am so sick of "Found Footage" movies. Mainly because the motivation for the person using the camera in the movie doesn't make sense, or isn't realistic enough.

This movie could be ok considering that they're using a camera that can see spirits. But for god sakes, every other FF movie that involves someone consistently recording images on their camera never has believable motivation to do so. There is absolutely no way in hell a guy

This movie could be ok considering that they're using a camera that can see spirits. But for god sakes, every other FF movie that involves someone consistently recording images on their camera never has believable motivation to do so. There is absolutely no way in hell a guy or girl with a camera would constantly capture watchable footage during some of the intense sequences that happen in these movies. There is simply no reason why these characters don't just put down the camera and run away.

The biggest culprits of this being the original Paranormal Activity movie, Project Almanac, and Grave Encounters.

I'm a videographer and there are 3 FF movies in my opinion that get this right. 1. The blair witch project. 2. REC. and 3. Cloverfield. Now, Cloverfield is the exception to the rule. There's no reason for the character in that movie to be continually recording. However, the delivery concept of that movie is stellar and still one of the best examples of FF. Its literally an entire Hi8mm cassette tape with supposedly no cuts or edits of any kind. Now, I used to shoot on a Digital 8 camera and a Hi8mm camera and my friends and I would watch our films from beginning to end on those tapes directly from the camera. We would see overlapping footage just like in Cloverfield, and the entirety of our film would be the length of that Hi8mm cassette, just how it works in Cloverfield. To me that's almost the perfect way to do Found Footage.

So why the hell do some FF movies have bizarre editing inconstancies? If there is one camera, why is there suddenly coverage of something? If there ARE 2 cameras WHY IS THERE SUDDENLY COVERAGE OF SOMETHING? This basically means that this "Footage" that was found was edited by someone in order to create some sort of tone. Which is what you do when you're creating something that isn't real, RATHER than just letting the footage itself create realism of the movie, hence making it Found Footage. If you actually "found" this footage, would you really string all of it together they way it shows up on the screen. I mean, I don't know about you guys, but if I found a tape of some of the shit these films show, I sure as hell wouldn't put that shit together to make it feel like there was some sort of narrative in it.

If you're going to take the time to use coverage, or use multiple cameras in order to manipulate a story out of the idea or someone videotaping something, just go that extra step and make a normal movie.

Rant over.

Great, I've always wanted to know the secret of how they get people to keep watching these.

Looks pretty good. Hope it can capture the quality of the first three films (or at least the original, since that's the best one of the franchise).

They're watching a VHS tape on a HD television. The footage is 16x9 and clearly better than Standard Definition quality. There's no such thing.

I actually really enjoyed the first two PA. Never saw the other two since they got such bad reviews here and elsewhere. Would actually be a good surprise if this kept more that eerie vibe from what started the series.

Paranormal Activity starts to turn into Saw for me. I mean, both PA 1 and Saw 1 caught audiences by surprise and that's the reason they were a big hit. Both franchises shouldn't be sequelized in the first place.
