David Fincher & James Ellroy in talks with HBO for 1950s crime noir series

Besides developing a re-make of Channel 4's Utopia for HBO with GONE GIRL author Gillian Flynn, The Playlist has learned David Fincher will also be teaming up with a different writer for another series for the network: Mr. James Ellroy.

There aren't that many details on the planned series at this point, but according to the site, it will be a crime noir show set in Los Angeles during the 1950s, similar to Ellroy's L.A. CONFIDENTIAL. David Fincher and James Ellroy are fans of each other's work, and almost worked together when Fincher was attached to an adaptation of Ellroy's The Black Dahlia, which was later made into a feature film by Brian De Palma.

It's interesting Fincher has two television projects lined up (three if you count Mind Hunter, but it's been a while since we've heard anything about the series), and no plans (as far as we know) for a new movie after GONE GIRL. I'm not bitching though. UTOPIA has the potential to be a great show, and him teaming up with James Ellroy for a noir series is exciting stuff. Very interested in learning more about Fincher and Ellroy's new TV project.

David Fincher's GONE GIRL will be in theaters on October 3, 2014.
