Drew Goddard in negotiations to direct Sinister Six for Sony

04.07.2014

That Drew Goddard is so hot right now. The writer-director has slowly built a great resume leading up to what might be a huge payoff—a crack at a huge villain piece for Sony.

Goddard is currently in negotiations to helm the SINISTER SIX spin-off. This would be a nice set up for Goddard whose only previous effort was 2012s CABIN IN THE WOODS. Goddard did pen the script for SINISTER SIX, and it looks like that might have been impressive enough for them to bring him on as director.

The original villainous team consisted of Doctor Octopus, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio, Sandman and The Vulture. Venom will also receive his own spin-off film, which Goddard has been working on. Alex Kurtzman (THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, PEOPLE LIKE US) will direct on that one.

Goddard is all up in the comic movie game. Don’t think I forgot for a second that he was writing the DAREDEVIL series for Netflix.

I’m ready to see what the guy has instore for us. He’s got his name attached to some pretty cool projects, and here’s hoping that they turn out well.

I am still aggravated with Drew Goddard, Reeves and Abrams for not doing a follow up for Cloverfield. They keep getting side tracked with other projects.

I'm wondering if this will be released prior to ASM3. Then it would kind of make sense. Assemble the team in SS then have the big throw down in ASM3.

I liked Cabin In The Woods. It was different and, well, just plain good. But there wasn't anything in it that made me go "oh boy, this dude should do a Spidey villain super group movie without Spidey." And that's the problem - I don't get the point of making this movie, so I can't get interested no matter who is directing it.

I wonder if this is basically going to be the feature length version of that "Almost Got 'im" episode of Batman:TAS?

Almost Got 'Im is probably favourite episode of TAS. It's hard to pick a favourite but if I had to, that would be it.

Goddard is definitely talented

Loved Cabin in the Woods. And he is responsible for writing one of my very favorite movies, the epic monster/found footage gem Cloverfield. I still haven't rewatched that movie enough.

Has anyone seen/read any hints regarding the actual roster for the Sinister 6? Trying to imagine how they'll explain Mysterious and Kraven's [link]

We have plans for you, Peter Parker!

It'll be interesting to see what direction they take this evil Avengers movie.

I'm still not keen on the idea of a Sinister Six film, but Goddard certainly is talented and knows how to handle comic book characters. We'll see where it goes.

Bring on the thumbs down.

I think I'm finally over a lot of the comic book films. My favorite heroes, like Batman, Spider-man, and Superman already have great films and the rebooted versions (or planned reboots) just don't seem as good to me. The second-tier heroes don't have the same appeal to me b/c I don't read comics, unless it has an interesting director and cast like Antman. There are a few, like X-Men and Avengers/MCU films, I still look forward to, but I've lost interest in a lot of these new comic book films.

I think he would do a pretty fantastic job if he actually does sign on. Cabin in the Woods is such an underrated gem with a whole bunch of genres combined into one. The quality of that film was certainly fun and quality that this film needs in order to be successful.

Underrated? Um, no. Under-seen? Yes I'll give you that.
