Eddie Redmayne goes transgender for Tom Hooper’s The Danish Girl

Eddie-Redmayne-Oscar

THE DANISH GIRL is inspired by the true story of Danish artists Einar Wegener and his wife Gerda. What starts off as a simple favor asked of a husband by his wife to wear a pair of women's shoes and stockings for a few moments so she can finish a painting leads Einar Wegener undergoing surgery to become Lili Elbe. Tom Hooper (LES MISERABLES, THE KING'S SPEECH) will be directing the film with Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander playing the Wegener's, respectively. If you're wondering how Redmayne looks transgender, then I'm happy to make your Friday!

Redmayne has been delivering solid work for a while, but it was his work in Tom Hooper's LES MISERABLES that caught folks off-guard. One Oscar later for the pitch-perfect portrayal of Stephen Hawking in THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING and he's guaranteed to have a few eyes on him with his follow-up performance. Judging from the synopsis, THE DANISH GIRL will deliver something seriously compelling. If it ends up being pushed to this year, I'd bet that an Oscar nomination wouldn't be too far-fetched.

THE DANISH GIRL is scheduled to be released sometime in 2016.
