Call me a heretic, call me what you will. Say I'm old fashioned, say I'm over the hill. But THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO was a total bore. Like everyone else, I got the book and read it, but unlike everyone else, I mostly hated it. I haven't felt this out of the loop since the LORD OF THE RINGS debacle of the early 2000s. So I'm not sure I really care whether or not Rooney Mara is a dead ringer for Lisbeth Salander, the book's heroine, but I know many of you do. And now Mara has been spotted in Lisbeth gear while motorcycle training for the film.

Actual filming on DRAGON TATTOO isn't scheduled to begin production until October after director David Fincher wraps up his responsibilities on THE SOCIAL NETWORK but Mara is doing some prep work and this gives you an idea of what to expect. This isn't her actual costume from the film but she does have the haircut and pale complexion down pat. Check out a sampling below and click on any of the pics to head to RooneyMara.net (she has her own .net?) to see more.

Oh God!
I hope there isn't a sex scene between Daniel Craig and this girl..... that shit would be awkward.

She was hands down the worst part of the Elm Street remake, and there was a fuck load wrong with that. Its like she was in the movie because she lost a bet. Of all the genuinely talented actresses out there, why her? And for such a great character too. Its like is Tommy Wiseau played Eric Draven in The Crow remake. Ballz to that man. Should of been Olivia Wilde.

Saw the movie
I liked the movie, but it wasn't jaw droppingly great, which I felt was due to the script Some things about the film felt hastily thrown together, even at almost three hours long, but all in all, it was still a good film. This is the perfect kind of film for Fincher: a slow burning thriller where the violence isn't stylized but very hard hitting and gruesome. Infernal Affairs was a great movie...

This is the perfect kind of film for Fincher: a slow burning thriller where the violence isn't stylized but very hard hitting and gruesome. Infernal Affairs was a great movie too, and many could argue that Martin Scorsese's remake was pointless, but The Departed was better in my book. This could also be the case here with Fincher.

I really liked it. Noomi Rapice was born to play Lisbeth. This Mara chick I am not game for. Although, I can see Daniel Craig in the role of the journalist to a tee. No need for Fincher to be making his version of this. The Swedes make some awesome flicks! If you can't take the subtitles wait till a dubbed over version comes out. I got that with OLD BOY...one of the best movie experiences I...

No wonder this country is going down the toilet...not only are we lazy...we steal everyone elses good ideas, but as of now I'm against the Fincher version, but ultimately will go see it to compare, but for Chrissake Hollywood, how bout some originality for once. At least sack up to make a Halo movie or something...if not, then I'll learn Swede.

I haven't read the book but this character is supposed to be a sexy badass right? I am not getting that from these pictures. Can someone explain this fad to me or why I should even care about this series? Beyond Fincher directing it this is personally the most un appealing project he's ever been involved in and before this we have to sit through the Facebook movie. Is D.F. now determined to try...

Just watch the Swedish movie.
I didn't read the book, nor care to, but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the movie. The lead actress Noomi Rapace was amazing and people should just watch that one. Get over your fear of subtitles. This English adaptation is useless, as is the remake of Let the Right One In.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is a novel for hispters. Now the person playing Lisbeth Salander for the remake now they blew it.

Yeah I totally did not enjoy the Lord of the Rings movies. I thought they were sort of boring... Maybe I liked the first one. I don't know... I tried the book, too... just nothing.

All right, I guess
I agree that the books and movies (or at least the first one, which is the only I saw) are overrated but aren't necessarily bad, and I don't feel it's a crime to replace Noomi Rapace either. She was good but not "so good I can't see anyone else play the part" good.

Never read the book, but I saw the film and thought it was great. Lisbeth is a great protagonist. Sure, there are plenty of tough females, but I like the multi-faceted Lisbeth, and Noomi was fantastic as the character. Not so sure about Rooney. But I trust Fincher, so we'll see.

Wow, what's with all the negativity for this movie/book all of the sudden? I was one of those in the minority for disliking LOTR as well, but unlike you I'm looking forward to this series. Sure the book drags a little, but this can be EASILY cleaned up and cut down for the movie. I think people should give this a chance before they rip it to shreds. I believe in David Fincher, he hasn't...

How they went from Noomi Rapace to Rooney Mara shows Fincher was obviously guided by his cock. No thanks Fincher apologists.

True, but in the book, Lisbeth Salander was described as a little waif so Rooney Mara is a more accurate depiction of the character. But, there's a flaw in the book, because it severely strains credibility that a little waif would be as tough as Lisbeth Salander is supposed to be, so in that respect, Noomi Rapace was a better choice. That said, I really don't like this character at all, so I ...

The book had all one dimensional bland characters with the exception of Lisbeth Salander, who was a cartoon character. The plot was a generic crime thriller/mystery that brought absolutely nothing new to the genre. I was very annoyed with the constant speculation about who would play Lisbeth Salander in the American remake because this character was not deserving of all the talk or hype in my opinion. And A LOT of my favorite young actresses were supposedly up for the part so I felt irritated that any of them might wind up in this movie. Luckily, they cast Rooney Mara, who I'm unfamiliar with. Nothing against her or Fincher for making the movie but I have absolutely no interest in it.

Agreed
Totally agree on this book. I actually think the movie will be good though because they will cut out all the droning on and on garbage and only use the pertinent parts and good sequences. For once Hollywood cutting out 80% of a book when making a movie adaptation will be a good thing!

Sampson, I'm with you. I'm sure the book and movie are great, is just that I have no idea what all the hype is around this movie.
