Nick Hornby's novels have taken on a bit of a cult status in recent years, with the film adaptations gaining similar traction, with pics like HIGH FIDELITY, AN EDUCATION, ABOUT A BOY, and FEVER PITCH becoming niche favorites. Hornby's latest big-screen adaptation is A LONG WAY DOWN, which stars Pierce Brosnan, Toni Collette, Aaron Paul, and Imogen Poots as four strangers who meet on a roof on New Year's Eve, forming an unlikely surrogate family from that point on. Directed by French filmmaker Pascal Chaumeil, the film is gearing up for its international release and today we have our first look at the full trailer.

Take a look:

It's a bit schmaltzy, but I think hidden underneath the thick layer of feel-good marketing there's a potentially solid emotional film in there. Pics like this can be a tough sell. The "dual-genre" nature of dramedy's is difficult in itself, as it's a bit of a movie identity crisis, but that doesn't mean it can't work. The cast is the big sell here. You've got James Bond, Jesse Pinkman, The United States of Tara, and that hot chick from DISTURBIA the FRIGHT NIGHT remake, plus Dr. Grant (Sam Neill) and a former Bond girl (Rosamund Pike), making for a very appealing mash-up of actors.

A LONG WAY DOWN is set for release in the UK on March 21, 2014. A U.S. release has yet to be announced.

Wrong on some things

That is NOT the hot chick from Disturbia. That chick, Sara Roemer, had her career go nowhere. The chick you are actually talking about is Imogen Poots, best known to American audiences as the hot chick from the Fright Night remake.

Ah, shit, why did I think Disturbia? Maybe I was thinking Fright Night...or Centurion. Either way, my bad, and all better now.

Correctumondo - but I would of said 'the hot chick from 28 Weeks Later and V For Vendetta'...but then, she was quite younger in those too. Oops :)

Totally just hit me Poots and Paul are both in this and Need for Speed.

No problemo, Mister Shirey. I consider Poots talented whereas Roemer…the less said the better. Anyway, I find the glaring lack of Aaron Paul in the trailer kind of interesting. I wonder if it was purely a marketing decision or something else.

It is interesting, no? Originally, it was Emile Hirsch in the role originally, but he had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict. I don't know if that has any bearing on the trailer (likely not), but it is interesting to think of him in the role as opposed to Paul. Although Paul was hugely successful on Breaking Bad he still has yet to prove he's a box office draw...Need For Speed will be telling...
