Fox release date shuffle: Updates on Predator, Gambit, X-films, and more!

With the massive and continued success of DEADPOOL in full swing, Fox has announced a number of slate changes and official additions to their movie calendar. Notable inclusions include Shane Black's PREDATOR, two untitled Fox/Marvel films, and a sizeable move for Tim Burton's MISS PEREGRINE’S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN. Both Channing Tatum's GAMBIT and THE MOUNTAIN BETWEEN US with Idris Elba are now unset, meaning they're still in development and moving forward, but will find a release date home later on. We'll also be getting Ridley Scott's ALIEN: COVENANT a few months earlier, sliding into late summer of next year.

As for the mysterious Fox/Marvel films, the safe bet is that one of them would be the already announced DEADPOOL sequel (which is confirmed to feature fan-favorite character Cable), which I'd put my money on for the January 12th date. The October 2018 title could be anything, but it's nearly a year after GAMBIT's original date, so I wouldn't be surprised if GAMBIT slid in there. Of course, it could always be a follow up to X-MEN: APOCALYPSE as well. Time will tell. Either way, Fox seems to be full steam ahead on their comic properties.

Check out the full roster of changes/additions below.

MISS PEREGRINE’S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN moves from December 25, 2016, to September 30, 2016.

GAMBIT, previously announced for release on October 7, 2016 is now Unset.

WHY HIM? moves from November 11, 2016 to December 25, 2016.

THE MOUNTAIN BETWEEN US, previously announced for release on February 10, 2017 is now Unset.

UNTITLED WOLVERINE SEQUEL is still sitting on March 3, 2017.

FERDINAND moves from April 7, 2017 to July 21, 2017.

ALIEN: COVENANT moves from October 6, 2017 to August 4, 2017.

An UNTITLED FOX/MARVEL FILM will open, in wide release, on October 6. 2017.

according to my list of anticipated movies i made, October 6 2017 already had Andy Serkis' Jungle Book movie and Jan 12 2018 already has the Blade Runner sequel. It is possible that even these dates are not set in stone

'Gambit' is going to have that October 2017 date, and 'Deadpool & Cable' is going to have the January 2018 date.

Brian Singer has expressed a willingness to do the next X-Men movie after 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and seeing as how X-Men: Apocalypse has not even come out yet and the next X-Men movie hasn't been green lit yet I would imagine that the 2017 and 2018 dates are for Gambit and Deadpool.

We know that there are existing New Mutants and X-Force scripts. Until Deadpool came out, Fox only had one successful superhero franchise, namely X-Men / Wolverine. They tried to turn Fantastic Four

We know that there are existing New Mutants and X-Force scripts. Until Deadpool came out, Fox only had one successful superhero franchise, namely X-Men / Wolverine. They tried to turn Fantastic Four into a franchise and it hasn't caught on. Now they have X-Force / Deadpool in addition to X-Men.

My guess is that the next X-Men movie will have William Stryker, Mr. Sinister and Sabretooth as villains. The sequel could have Mr. Sinister, Sabretooth, Madelyne Prior, etc. as villains and they could finish off the trilogy with Mr. Sinister and Jason Stryker as villains. They aren't going to do a scene for scene adaption of the Dark Phoenix Saga because they aren't going to want to kill off Jean Grey again. The movies would be set before, during and after the original trilogy so as to catch up with present day and allow for an eventual X-Men / X-Force crossover. The first New Mutants movie should also be set during the time of the original X-Men trilogy so that they can re-cast Rogue, Ice Man, Kitty, Pyro and Colossus. I realize that the New Mutants in the comics are Karma, Wolfsbane, Cannonball, Psyche and Sunspot but I think they are going to save Cannonball for X-Force.

If Cable and Deadpool is a hit then we could get a Cable solo movie. Olivia Munn has also said she would like to do a solo Psylocke movie and I am warming to the idea. I suspect that Deadpool, Cable, Gambit, Psylocke and X-Force movies would all be set in present day.

There's a lot of characters that Fox could use in the X-Men / New Mutants / X-Force movies: Xavier, Magneto, Wolverine, Storm, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Angel, Jubilee, Quicksilver, Lady Deathstrike, Havok, Polaris, Mystique, Collosus, Kitty, Ice Man, Pyro, Rogue, Karma, Wolfsbane, Magma, Psyche, Magik, Dazzler, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, X-23, Psylocke, Sunspot, Canonball, Warpath, Siren, Shatterstar, Feral, Bishop, Blink, Gambit, Cable and Deadpool. Have I forgotten any obvious choices?

Gambit has a lot to live up to after Deadpool's massive success. And I really hope it does well too; Gambit is one of my favorite X-Men, and Tatum is a good actor under the right direction. So I'm hoping lighting will strike twice for the solo X-Men universe films.
