Frankenstein retitled Victor Frankenstein with first synopsis revealed

06.17.2014

The formally titled FRANKENSTEIN directed by Paul McGuigan (PUSH) will now be titled VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN and Twentieth Century Fox has pushed the release date to October of 2015 instead of January. The movie stars James McAvoy as the title character and Daniel Radcliffe as Igor. Paul McGuigan is at the helm of this revisionist take on Mary Shelley's masterpiece, based on a script by Max Landis (CHRONICLE).

Here’s the official synopsis that was just released:

James McAvoy is Victor Von Frankenstein and Daniel Radcliffe stars as Igor in a unique, never-before-seen twist on Mary Shelley’s classic 19th century novel. Told from Igor’s perspective, we see the troubled young assistant’s dark origins, his redemptive friendship with the young medical student Victor Von Frankenstein, and become eyewitnesses to the emergence of how Frankenstein became the man—and the legend—we know today.

I guess if Rocky and Rambo can go full name, so can Frankenstein. It will be interesting to see the story from Igor’s point of view; every origin story these days is dark as hell so I expect nothing less here. Besides Radcliffe and McAvoy, actress Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey) is set to play the object of Igor's affection. That should end well.

What hump?

VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN lands on October 2nd, 2015.

At least Penny Dreadful is doing Mary Shelley's characters justice.

What a twist to Mary Shelly's novel! Tell the whole thing from the perspective of a character who is not in the novel! The character was invented for the third Frankenstein movie. So either Max Landis either didn't read the book, or did and decided that his idea was better than on of the most successful books of all time. This just goes to further how I already felt about Landis, that he's a total douche who got lucky once.

Chronicle was a good movie, but I credit Josh Trank and the actors

Chronicle was a good movie, but I credit Josh Trank and the actors way more than Landis. The script was actually quite simplistic, very angsty, and honestly relied on a premise that isn't very original these days - why don't we tel the origin story from the villain's perspective.

I've since read Landis's Super V. Joker comic -- it was god awful. He simply used the comic to blatantly preach about why he thinks the Joker is lame and people are idiots for liking him so much.

I also watched his Superman short film. While it is an interesting story and told decently, he himself comes off as such a tool! Why in the world did he feel the need to do the whole thing with a glass of scotch in his hand other than to try to make himself seem cool thereby making the movie about him and his thoughts on Superman than on Superman himself.

At the end of the day, I hope that his next couple project will help everyone else realize the guy's just a hack with a famous daddy, stop giving him work, and he'll be promptly forgotten.

It's a movie about Igor and it's called "Victor Frankenstein". Makes sense to me.

Did Igor walk into The Joker's closet? I wonder what the Frankenstein Monster looks like. I hope it's more practical effects than CGI.

I just hope that Igor doesn't end up becoming the actual Frankenstein's monster. It's too predictable for a plot twist.

I like the idea of this being "19th Century Social Network", with Victor Frankenstein as a Mark Zuckerberg type and Igor akin to Eduardo Saverin. I think that's how Daniel Radcliffe described it. It'll probably do better closer to Halloween.
