G.I. Joe 3 on the way with a possible Hasbro crossover?

07.01.2014

While G.I. JOE: RETALIATION may have been a step in the right direction in bringing everyone's favorite Joes to the screen, it wasn't exactly the blockbuster studios were hoping for. Grossing about $122 million domestically (just shy of it's $130 million budget), international numbers kept the film out of the red, but it was by no means Transformers money. Before the arrival of a TRANSFORMERS 5, we'll most likely see the Joes back on the big screen in what producer Lorenzo di Bonaventure is sure will be crowd-pleasing.  You can check out the whole Transformers-centric interview here, but I've pulled the Joe highlights for you.

In regards to a G.I. JOE 3:

I have to say I’m really excited about what we’ve come up with on G.I. Joe 3. I think it’s one of the best ideas for a sequel I’ve ever run into, and I think the audience is going to be really, really happy with us.

On whether or not the Joes may run into the Transformers:

I’m sure the studios would love that idea. I don’t think either story has run out of its own momentum. I think when they start to run out of their own momentum is when some conversation like that could happen. It’s definitely not in the short term. None of us are talking about that.

Obviously there's no immediate plans for a crossover at this point in time, but he didn't sound closed off to the idea. If anything, the Joes may need the Transformers if they're really wanting that film franchise to continue. While I'm not the biggest fan of G.I. Joe, I think there is potential there to make some fun action films. The second had it's moments, but as most action films do, dropped the ball when it came to being invested in the characters. If they could somehow tap into the formula that's made the last two Fast and Furious flicks such a great time at the theater, I think they'd be onto something. After all, they already have The Rock in play! Him and Tatum had some great chemistry in their limited screen time (spoilers?) so I wouldn't remind more of those two.

If you need to get your Hasbro fix ASAP, TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION is now in theaters.

If Adrianne Palicki returns . . . I'd be okay with that.

The first Joes movie was waaaay better. The second one just seemed like a generic action film, even with the Rock.

You know what else could work? A Fast and Furious / Expendables crossover.

No

GI Joe / Transformers wouldn't work but I could see Godzilla / Transformers happening because hong Kong / Godzilla happened in 1962. Of course, some say we already had that and was called Pacific Rim.

It's been done in the comics, it could happen. I actually really liked Retaliation, sure it was silly, but it was far less aggressively silly than the first one.

Wait a second. The vehicles and weapons in these movies are *just* vehicles and weapons? They don't talk or anything? I find that hard to believe.

I'd see Joe 3, IF:

1) Get Scarlett back, played by a different actress, and have her be with Snake Eyes.
2) Get Quaid back for a cameo
3) Have someone mention how Rip Cord was beaten to death with a lead dildo in a back alley by a male prostitute
4) Fix Snake's continuity, and show in flashback the chopper accident
5) Include Timber
6) Lady Jay goes undercover in many, MANY skimpy outfits

I can not for the life of me get through G.I. Joe Retaliation. I have tried watching it several times, but it is seriously one of the most painful movie going experience I have ever encountered (and I've set through a Twilight movie). I want to watch the entire movie, just to say I've seen it, but I can't. I've seen the first film and I didn't care much for it, but it didn't come close to the true awfulness of Retaliation.

Just get drunk and watch the end, it feels like the Rock is whipping donuts in Joe vehicle for nothing....it's almost hilarious.

Ya. This is up there in worst journalism ever. You might as well have just made up and said they were and that Lebron James was going to be in it. I don't know if it's like a deadline thing or what, but I have written for papers before (not a lot, not big time by any means, but enough to understand it, was the editor of my college paper), and there's one article I wrote that's really embarrassing - still now if I think if it bc I tried so hard to be funny but it wasn't at all. So if it's not

You do realize your headline suggests Joe 3 has a possible crossover, while in the interview, the dude says there's no such thing for Joe 3. Headlines are becoming increasingly dodgy on this site, boys.

I know, right? People are going to have to start actually reading the articles instead of scrolling passed it and just commenting.
