G.I. Joe 3 on the way with a possible Hasbro crossover?

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

While G.I. JOE: RETALIATION may have been a step in the right direction in bringing everyone's favorite Joes to the screen, it wasn't exactly the blockbuster studios were hoping for. Grossing about $122 million domestically (just shy of it's $130 million budget), international numbers kept the film out of the red, but it was by no means Transformers money. Before the arrival of a TRANSFORMERS 5, we'll most likely see the Joes back on the big screen in what producer Lorenzo di Bonaventure is sure will be crowd-pleasing.  You can check out the whole Transformers-centric interview here, but I've pulled the Joe highlights for you.

In regards to a G.I. JOE 3:

I have to say I’m really excited about what we’ve come up with on G.I. Joe 3. I think it’s one of the best ideas for a sequel I’ve ever run into, and I think the audience is going to be really, really happy with us.

On whether or not the Joes may run into the Transformers:

I’m sure the studios would love that idea. I don’t think either story has run out of its own momentum. I think when they start to run out of their own momentum is when some conversation like that could happen. It’s definitely not in the short term. None of us are talking about that.

Obviously there's no immediate plans for a crossover at this point in time, but he didn't sound closed off to the idea. If anything, the Joes may need the Transformers if they're really wanting that film franchise to continue. While I'm not the biggest fan of G.I. Joe, I think there is potential there to make some fun action films. The second had it's moments, but as most action films do, dropped the ball when it came to being invested in the characters. If they could somehow tap into the formula that's made the last two Fast and Furious flicks such a great time at the theater, I think they'd be onto something. After all, they already have The Rock in play! Him and Tatum had some great chemistry in their limited screen time (spoilers?) so I wouldn't remind more of those two.

If you need to get your Hasbro fix ASAP, TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION is now in theaters.

If Adrianne Palicki returns . . . I'd be okay with that.
