James Gunn says don’t expect a Guardians of the Galaxy/Avengers crossover

Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers: Age of Ultron James Gunn

Most of us have assumed at some point The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy will team-up, with it most likely to happen in the AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR movies. But it doesn't sound like that's the plan, based on James Gunn's response when asked by Screen Junkies if AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON will change the tone of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2.

We really are separate from the Avengers, and I don't think people should assume too many things about the Guardians play in all these. We have our own galaxy to take care of. We have our own galaxy to save. Earth is the Avengers’ province. Thinking that everything is going to come together in a perfect way is not necessarily the way it's going to happen.

A full-on crossover involving the two teams might not be in the works, but I could definitely see one or two members of the groups appearing in other films, like Star-Lord showing up in INFINITY WAR, similar to what Marvel is already doing with Iron Man and CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR. Are you disappointed The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy probably aren't going to appear together on the big screen, or do you think keeping them separate is a good thing?

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON opens on May 1, 2015, and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 is scheduled to be released on May 5, 2017.
