Jeff Goldblum dishes on his return as Dr. Ian Malcolm for Fallen Kingdom

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

I uh, have some unfortunate news about Jeff Goldblum's role in JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM. Yes, you see, those who thought that the THE FLY and THOR: RAGNAROK actor would play a significant role in the JURASSIC WORLD sequel, are about to be sorely disappointed. According to a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, in which Goldblum details the extent of his character's involvement in the new movie, the PORTLANDIA alum revealed that his performance may not reach beyond the courtroom scene found in several of the film's trailers. I know, I'm disappointed as well.

Be that as it may, Goldblum is still very excited to be walking among the dinosaurs, once again, even though his part this time around is quite small. In fact, he told EW that much and more, when asked to speak about his triumphant return to the franchise: "Yeah. Deeelightful! Oh, come on. Fantastic! I love Chris [Pratt] and Bryce [Dallas Howard]," Goldblum said. "Colin Trevorrow is an important artist and grand thinker and great person. He just directed me in that Jeep commercial during the Super Bowl. Prior to my appearance in London to shoot, I called him on the phone and we talked about my little scene. Writerly master that he is, I enjoyed talking to him about how we could make it great."

While this is most unfortunate for fans of Goldblum's character, there is a small comfort in knowing that, despite being minimal, that Malcolm's part in the story will be part of something much larger – it may even tie-in to the events of JURASSIC WORLD 3, but no one knows for sure just yet. As Goldblum continued his talk with EW, the HOLY MAN actor shared a little about his Fallen Kingdom appearance: "They bring me in front of Congress. They want to know if I have an opinion of the volcano and if we should let the dinosaurs go. I’m like Owen (Pratt) and Claire (Howard) and a deep lover of all living things but you’ve heard me on the subject of the misguided reanimation. As long as a volcano, my best advice as difficult as it is, is that we should let evolution course correct. We have the power to destroy our selves and we need to wise up."

Lastly, the man responsible for one of the sexiest Funko Pop! figures to date was sure to let the outlet know how enthusiastic he is about "going back to the park," so to speak. "Delightful. I have such a fond memory of working with Steven Spielberg and the casts of the two movies. People seem to get a kick out of my character here and there and I didn’t want to let anyone down. I was thrilled getting another chance at it. My best advice is to keep everyone away and let the volcano do its stuff. But as we know there are other agendas afoot. These people who want to misuse our accomplishments for profit or for cheap entertainment or for militaristic power? Shame on them. We must resist," Goldblum preached.

Oh, and with regard to Dr. Ian Malcom being a part of JURASSIC WORLD 3, Goldblum was quick to react by saying: "Yesssssss. Yessssss. I hope it would be something where I could contribute something worthwhile. But I can’t get enough of this character!"

Are you ready for JURASSIC WORLD: MALCOLM'S RAZOR? I know I am. After all, the world can always use a bit more Goldblum.

It’s been four years since theme park and luxury resort Jurassic World was destroyed by dinosaurs out of containment. Isla Nublar now sits abandoned by humans while the surviving dinosaurs fend for themselves in the jungles. When the island’s dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event. Owen is driven to find Blue, his lead raptor who’s still missing in the wild, and Claire has grown a respect for these creatures she now makes her mission. Arriving on the unstable island as lava begins raining down, their expedition uncovers a conspiracy that could return our entire planet to a perilous order not seen since prehistoric times.

With all of the wonder, adventure and thrills synonymous with one of the most popular and successful series in cinema history, this all-new motion-picture event sees the return of favorite characters and dinosaurs—along with new breeds more awe-inspiring and terrifying than ever before. Welcome to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM starring Chriss Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jeff Goldblum, James Cromwell, and BD Wong will stomp into theaters on June 8th. Feel free to check out the full interview with Goldblum over at Entertainement Weekly here.
