JoBlo.com's Top 10 Trailers of 2010: Buried

4 years agoby:
100%

Welcome to the 10 Best Trailers of 2010. This is the 10th Annual List dating back to 2001 and my sixth year bringing it exclusively to JoBlo.com. If you visit the Trailers Page frequently, you should know my tastes quite well. Keep coming back for the rest of the year and we'll slowly be rolling out the Top 10 one by one. Sometimes great trailers make great movies and other times they make you see awful movies. Don't hesitate to strike back below if you think I must be completely nuts. (Also, keep in mind that some trailers that you've seen this year were on last year's list.)

# 9 BURIED

What I really enjoy about this trailer was the abandoning of traditional trailer aesthetics; instead of piling together a bunch of clips, the teaser uses design to sell itself. Buried took a fresh new perspective that hearkened back to trailers from the late 1970s and the early 80s with a modern graphic appeal. This trailer is running on all cylinders and completely engages with the audience. It does a fantastic job of selling the premise without giving any clue about what’s going to really take place in the movie. This is a great trailer and I expect it will be duplicated by lesser films in the near future.

THE REST OF THE LIST SO FAR:

#10 KICK-ASS Red Band Trailer
#9 BURIED Trailer
#8 THE TOWN Trailer
#7 INCEPTION Trailer
#6 SUPER 8 Trailer
#5 WINNEBAGO MAN Trailer
#4 SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD International Trailer
#3 COWBOYS & ALIENS Teaser
#2 TRON: LEGACY Trailer
#1 THE SOCIAL NETWORK Trailer

Extra Tidbit: Am I the only one that feels this movie just disappeared from theaters? WTF.

While this year was bad for movies, it was awesome for trailers.
While I stopped watching most of the trailers some months ago - I want to start to care about movies again - I watched almost all of them until then.

#1 and #2 are obviously Tree of Life and Battle: Los Angeles

Was Clash of the Titans this year? If so, fucking awesome edited trailer as well.

tidbit

it didnt disappear from theaters - it didnt even make it. It was released in less than 100 theaters nationwide. Pretty dissappointing move by the distributer, considering the great buzz that came with the film.

Though I never go to see it because of such the limited release, from what I've read, I'm a bit surprised that it was overlooked by the Golden Globes and other awards ceremonies. Yet, "The Tourist" gets praise - now that's a "WTF"

Great trailer. Definitely one of the best this year. Never saw it because it never came out near me. As for all the praise for this movie, I am surprised it did not get any mention at any of the award shows or any nominations. It would have been nice to see Reynolds get some attention.

I had forgotten it was even out until I just so happened to see it a theater and was blown away! I mean I understand why James Franco is getting all the praise, but show Ryan Reynolds some love people!
