The Big Bang Theory star Johnny Galecki has found some time between shooting episodes of one of the most popular shows on television to produce and star in a horror comedy called THE CLEANSE, which will be getting a theatrical and VOD release one month from today, on May 4th.

Written and directed by Bobby Miller, THE CLEANSE is about (as described by Galecki to Entertainment Weekly)

a group of people who are unhappy in their lives. They go on one of these kind of trendy retreats that are quite the fad now, not really knowing what to expect, and not really knowing what they hope to be the result, but they want, and probably need, change in their lives. And so, they are given a cleanse on their first day at this retreat, and what the cleanse does is expels all the toxins from your body. What they don’t know, and what they soon learn, is that those toxins form into your own personal demon, your own personal pain in an embodied form — literally."

Galecki also described the project as fun, fantastical, and nostalgic, saying it's reminiscent of films like GREMLINS, ROSEMARY'S BABY, David Cronenberg's THE BROOD, and "a lot of John Carpenter films".

His co-stars include Anna Friel, Oliver Platt, Kyle Gallner, Anjelica Huston, Kevin J. O'Connor, Diana Bang, and little creatures that were brought to life with the use of practical effects. CGI was added in as a "sweetener" to help the creatures be more expressive.

The trailer can be seen below. THE CLEANSE looks like fun to me, and the little personal demons creatures are super cute, so I'm looking forward to seeing what sort of horrific things they get up to.
