The new video for Lady Gaga's song "Telephone" is movie-related only through its incorporation of an iconic KILL BILL prop and an obvious love of women-in-prison exploitation flicks, but on a slow Friday, that's close enough.

The tune itself is almost more hyper-produced electroglam than I can handle in a single serving, but there's something to be said for the hot-bodied pop queen's influences. "I mostly love the way [Quentin Tarantino] uses different forms to create something new," she tells E! Online. "His direct involvement in the video came from him lending me the Pussy Wagon. We were having lunch one day in Los Angeles and I was telling him about my concept for the video and he loved it so much he said, 'You gotta use the Pussy Wagon.'" 

The mini-movie (featuring Tyrese, many chicks and tons of glitter) comes from veteran music vid director Jonas Åkerlund, who also did Gaga's "Paparazzi" spot as well as the drug drama SPUN and the recent horror movie HORSEMEN.

I like the song and video. But don't like the CG make-up.
I like this. But the CG airbrushing, IE CG "make up" to their faces, which is slowly replacing standard make-up in film I don't like, because it's too obvious- this may or may not have been done for effect. Nevertheless, I've seen it done before where it's not supposed to be noticed and you do and it looks weird. The other facial stutters and facial stretches are cool though.

I'm not a complete fan of this video, it is a little "far out" for me. But I love Lady GaGa and not afraid to admit it. When I hear her songs I hear substance, which is unlike what you hear from 99% of other pop female artists i.e. Britney. Unless she O.D.'s or something I think she's going to have a very long interesting career.

All the haters can suck it: this is nothing less than an incredible, beautiful, amazing work of pop-art. Those who fail to acknowledge Lady Gaga's talent as a performance artist - not to mention as a singer - are most unfortunate and are really missing out.

I personally didn't really like the song all that much but the video was awesome. I have a lot more respect for Lady Gaga than most pop queens and she's even got a handful of songs that are pretty good.

I didn't really like the song, but the video was awesome! I like how someone bellow called the Pussy Wagon a throwaway prop from Kill Bill when it's essentially a supporting character in the film.

I think LG bit Michael Jackson with the overall "movie style" of this video. Not saying that only Michael has done it, but this one feels a tad copycat.



With that said, out of all the pop stars within the last 5 years, LG is definately a fresh sound, or at least look. Beter than the Ooops I Shaved My Head chick.



But DAMN Beyonce made this watchable! That woman is...

What is so refreshing about Lady Gaga is in addition to catchy songs, she can actually sing, and she has an exceptional eye for visual "pop". There is such wonderful subtly incorporated with the very original visuals, she far exceeds what Madonna used to try and do.

Gaga is just one of the many descendants of Shock Rock. Something that hasn't been shocking since the 70's but that's okay. The kids today haven't seen stuff like this before. Let them feel original. God knows it would be horrible to look into a back catalogue of real musicians and showmen.

My real problem is the music. Aside from an uninspired video that is far too over lit with shoddy editing. It's not very musical. Sure it gets stuck in your head but so does the Lamb Chops song that never ends. Doesn't mean it's good. And this is definitely not good. If you want original dance music there is plenty of variety out there. Try Aphex Twin if you want original. It'll piss everyone else off as well, but it's not on the radio and he's not seen by everyone, but at least it's actually different and his videos are actually quite amazing. Gaga is just label sponsored artistry. Which can't be all bad... but... it's just not good and it's sad that this is all that people have to look at for art... so sad. Why can't they be excited or inspired by someone who can really push boundries.



Anyway, I guess the kids need to feel like they have to fight against something. A woman with cigarette glasses may as well be their icon. Because that's the sign of a true artist. True originality. Yup. Cigarette glasses. Just because it was thought up, doesn't mean it's a good idea.



She makes me think of Ghost World and the art class scenes. So phoney and desperate to be artistic that true artistry is just being shat upon. Oh well. Next Fad Please!

It's good to watch things you don't like. Three reasons.

1. To challenge yourself.
2. If you give it enough of a chance you might end up liking it.
3. Maybe you'll end up liking it.

And it's not about being original. Go to any major city and you'll see people like her every day. Maybe not wearing Danger tape, but original people. They just don't have the bu...

Loved it except for a couple lines that felt way to silly even for a music video like this. I'm extremely glad Jonas Åkerlund found his calling with Gaga. The guy is an excellent director.
